Prince Harry Says His Father Prince Charles Passed on 'Pain & Suffering' as a Parent

Prince Harry is opening up about his childhood.

The 36-year-old royal got candid on Dax Shepard‘s Armchair Expert podcast about being raised by Prince Charles.

During the appearance, Prince Harry spoke about his father’s parenting style.

He claimed that his father Prince Charles handed down a “cycle” of “genetic pain and suffering” to him, which he and wife Meghan Markle moved to Los Angeles to break.

“He treated me the way he was treated,” he said, adding that he was debating leaving royal life since his “early 20s” because of “what it did to my mum.”

“It’s a lot of genetic pain and suffering that gets passed on anyway…so we as parents should be doing the most we can to try and say, ‘You know what? That happened to me, I’m going to make sure that doesn’t happen to you.’”

He said he wants to “break the cycle” within his family.

“I never saw it, I never knew about it, and then suddenly I started to piece it together and go, ‘OK, so this is where he went to school, this is what happened, I know this about his life, I also know that is connected to his parents so that means he’s treated me the way he was treated, so how can I change that for my own kids?’ And here I am, I moved my whole family to the US, that wasn’t the plan but sometimes you’ve got make decisions and put your family first and put your mental health first.”

He described royal life as “a mixture between The Truman Show and being in a zoo.‘”

He also revealed something Meghan Markle said to him about royal princess life.

Prince Harry Said To Be Flying Home on Monday Following A Lengthy Talk With Prince William & Prince Charles

Prince Harry will be back on his way home on Monday (April 19), according to reports.

Several outlets are now reporting that the Duke of Sussex is heading home to California to be with wife Meghan Markle and son Archie, following his attendance at his grandfather, Prince Philip‘s, funeral over the weekend in Windsor, England.

Harry arrived back in his home country last week and spent most of it in quarantine at Frogmore Cottage with cousin, Princess Eugenie, and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, ahead of the funeral over the weekend.

His visit was watched closely by royalists to see how he would react with brother Prince William and their father, Prince Charles.

According to a report from The Sun, Harry, William and Charles did spend some time together following the funeral, for around two hours. This was the first time the three had spoken since Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

They had been seen chatting with others side by side following the service as well.

Inside Photos from Prince Philip's Funeral - See the Royal Family at St. George's Chapel

Photos have been released from inside Prince Philip‘s funeral, which was held on Saturday afternoon (April 17) at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in Windsor, England.

Queen Elizabeth arrived at the funeral separately from other family members, who walked in a procession behind Philip’s coffin from the castle to the chapel. She sat all by herself during the ceremony and we learned the reason why.

Only 30 people are attending the funeral service due to COVID-19 restrictions and the guest list had to be cut down from the planned 800 people that would’ve attended in normal times.

Some of the guests included Philip‘s four children – Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward – and his grandchildren, including Prince William, Prince Harry, Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, and more.

William and his wife Kate Middleton sat on opposite sides of the chapel from Harry, though they were seen chatting with each other while leaving the ceremony.
