Taylor Swift & Scooter Braun's Drama: A Full Timeline of What Happened with Her Master Recordings

Since 2019, Taylor Swift has been in the midst of a feud with Scooter Braun and there had been so much happening between them that we have everything recapped in one place.

It all started after Scooter purchased Big Machine Label Group for $300 million, which means he now owns all of Taylor‘s previous albums and master recordings.

Taylor said she was “sad and grossed out” by the news, which she found out when the rest of the world found out. She called out Scooter for the “incessant, manipulative bullying” that she’s allegedly received at his hands for years and said this is her “worst case scenario.”

In November of 2020, it was revealed that Scooter Braun actually sold Taylor Swift‘s master recordings to someone else.

Here’s a timeline of everything that’s gone down:

Scooter Braun Sells Taylor Swift's Master Recordings

Almost two years after Scooter Braun‘s Ithaca Holdings LLC acquired Big Machine Label Group, Taylor Swift‘s former label, he has sold the rights to her master recordings.

Previously, when Scooter bought Big Machine Label, he became the owner of all of Taylor‘s six albums. Now, he has sold her master rights to an investment fund for north of $300 million. The deal closed in the last two weeks, Variety reports, and it’s unclear who bought them.

“This just happened to me without my approval, consultation or consent. After I was denied the chance to purchase my music outright, my entire catalog was sold to Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings in a deal that I’m told was funded by the Soros family, 23 Capital and that Carlyle Group. Yet, to this day, none of these investors have bothered to contact me or my team directly — to perform their due diligence on their investment. On their investment in me. To ask how I might feel about the new owner of my art, the music I wrote, the videos I created, photos of me, my handwriting, my album designs,” Taylor said at the time of the original sale to Scooter. “The fact is that private equity enabled this man to think, according to his own social media post, that he could ‘buy me.’ But I’m obviously not going willingly.”

After Scooter purchased her masters, Taylor wrote an open letter in which she expressed that she has never been a fan of Scooter as she felt bullied by him and his client Justin Bieber. Scooter finally addressed the controversy last year.

Taylor previously indicated that she would be re-recording her songs from her six Big Machine albums so that she would own those songs. Legally, as of this month, Taylor is allowed to re-record her old songs.

Justin & Hailey Bieber Step Out for Thursday Night Dinner at Craig's!

Earlier in the day, Justin was joined by several members of his team – manager Scooter Braun, his pastor Judah Smith, and his former “swagger coach” Ryan Good – for a photo shoot.

Hailey opened up to Elle about how she helped Justin clear up his acne.

“When I went on birth control for the first time a few years ago, my skin totally changed. I’d never had any kind of acne before, whereas now I’ll get hormonal break outs from that. After Justin went on Accutane for his acne I helped him repair his skin. Weirdly when he was a teenager, which is when you’d think he might get acne, his skin was perfect and then suddenly it came out when he was an adult, so it’s something he’d never had to deal with before. I did a load of research about skincare for acne-prone skin for both of us,” she said.

Hailey added, “It’s funny because we have really similar skin types so a lot of the products that worked for me ended up working for him as well. The Accutane was super drying so I shared some of my own skincare products with him to help get all the moisture back into his skin and they worked really well. It’s about learning what works for your skin as it changes.”

FYI: Justin is wearing Noon Goons pants.

Celebrities Support Ellen DeGeneres' Statement on Her Alleged Behavior & Workplace Toxicity

Ellen DeGeneres came forward on the first episode of her talk show to break her silence on the allegations of workplace toxicity and rumors about how she treats those who work below her.

“I’m so happy to be back in the studio. There are a lot of things I want to talk about. I’ve been looking forward to addressing it all directly and, unfortunately, talking directly to people has been illegal for six months, so I have a virtual audience here instead,” she said. “As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show, and then there was an investigation. I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected. I know that I’m in a position of privilege and power, and I realize that with that comes responsibility and I take responsibility for what happens at my show. This is The Ellen DeGeneres Show, I am Ellen DeGeneres.”

Now, a few celebrities took to Instagram to comment on The Ellen Show monologue. Several celebs “liked” the post on Instagram as well including Joey King and Chris Pratt, among many others. Click through the gallery to see a few of the comments.

Scooter Braun Didn't Originally Intend to Manage Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato and Scooter Braun are discussing how they came together as business partners.

Last May, the 27-year-old “Tell Me You Love Me” superstar inked a deal to make Scooter her new manager, and they recently opened up about how that decision came to be.

“In the past, I projected my own abandonment issues onto other people, especially male figures that I looked up to as father figures,” Demi told Bustle about switching up her managers. “I had to reflect on, ‘What do I want my relationship with my manager to look like without enmeshing my own father issues onto him?’”

“I’ve been through that with Justin … I’ve been through that with Ariana, you know?” Scooter added about going through trauma and mental health struggles with artists. “I felt like, because I’ve been through that a couple of times with people who started off very young, I can understand [Demi’s] struggles a little bit.”

Scooter then revealed that during their first meeting, he was ready to not take her on.

“My intention was to be respectful and decline,” he said. “She was nervous … What I saw is that she needed someone who didn’t need her. And about halfway through the meeting, [my partner Allison Kaye and I] both looked at each other and instinctually kind of laughed. And then Allison texted me and goes, ‘You’re thinking the same thing I am.’ I knew I could help her. I knew Allison could help her. I knew that we were in a position, in our lives and our careers, that if Demi needed to take three years off, she can do that. And if Demi needs us to go and have an honest conversation and get her out of something, it doesn’t affect my reputation.”

“I was nervous because I wanted him to manage me so bad, and I was terrified of rejection,” Demi said. “Also, having gone through such a public overdose, I didn’t know if anyone would want to manage me after that.”

Demi recently shared a sweet series of photos with her boyfriend. See the cute pics!

Todrick Hall Says He Resorted to 'A Few Regina George Moments' Amid Scooter Braun Feud

Todrick Hall is on the cover of Billboard‘s annual PRIDE issue, out now.

Here’s what the 35-year-old Quarantine Queen entertainer had to say…

On why he still feels like an outsider in the industry: “People have put me on a pedestal and think that I am signed to a label and that I have management. I am blown away by their ignorance on how the industry works…I am flattered that my team and I have been able to make people believe that we are on that same level.”

On comments from internet “trolls”: “I feel that the hate I receive on the internet comes mostly from people of color and people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. It’s almost like we like complaining about the fact that there isn’t enough representation, but then when the representation in there and it doesn’t come in the exact package or the exact size the we wished it had been, we bash that as well.”

Taylor Swift, on how Todrick Hall inspired her to be more vocal about LGBTQ equality: “From day one, Todrick has always been very honest with me about his life and his experiences as a gay man of color…he never felt the need to edit who he is around me or be a different version of himself. I think that unapologetic sense of self is also what people connect to in his work. He’s just Todrick. He’s never EVER going to even attempt to be anyone else.”

On his feud with Scooter Braun: “I don’t think that Scooter is a horrible villain the way that it may have been painted in the past — the way I have helped paint it in the past… I genuinely attempted several times to talk to him from a place of love, but with my wounds from being Black and gay in America, and his ego, it was difficult to get through. So I resorted to a few Regina George moments I’m not necessarily proud of.”
