Gina Rodriguez Stuns at a Gala Amid Exciting Casting News!

Gina Rodriguez looks gorgeous while walking the red carpet at the 2017 Ballet Hispanico Carnaval Gala on Monday night (May 15) at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

The 32-year-old actress was at the event to help honor her Jane the Virgin on-screen grandmother Rita Moreno.

Gina had some exciting news that day – she has landed the lead role in the upcoming movie Miss Bala, a remake of the 2011 Oscar-nominated film.

Gina is set to play “Gloria Meyer who, after her friend Suzu goes missing in Tijuana, finds herself a pawn in a dangerous game being played by the CIA, the DEA and a charismatic young crime boss,” according to Deadline. She will appear in the film alongside newcomer Ismael Cruz Córdova.

Aubrey Plaza & Others Attend NALIP Latino Media Awards 2016

Aubrey Plaza and Parenthood‘s Sarah Ramos pose on the red carpet at the 2016 NALIP Latino Media Awards at Dolby Theatre on Saturday (June 25) in Hollywood.

Kate Beckinsale Given the Woman of Distinction Award at NBFF!

Kate Beckinsale arrives at the 2016 Newport Beach Film Festival Honors Reception held at The Balboa Bay Club and Resort on Saturday (April 23) in Newport Beach, Calif.

Also in attendance at the event were Milo Ventimiglia, Scandal‘s Katie Lowes with hubby Adam Shapiro, Jason Ritter, Maggie Grace, Rita Moreno and musician Burt Bacharach.

At the ceremony, Kate received the NBFF Woman of Distinction Award for Outstanding Contribution to Acting, Burt received the Legend Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music in Cinema, and Rita received the Legend Award for Outstanding Contribution to Cinema.

Gina Rodriguez's Speech for Rita Moreno Will Make You Cry! (Video)

Gina Rodriguez opens the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors special by giving a touching tribute to the legendary Rita Moreno and her speech is bound to make you cry.

The 31-year-old Jane the Virgin actress opens up about how her mother introduced her to Rita‘s work when she was a child and asked why no one on television looked like her. She now plays the actress’ granddaughter on the hit CW series.

“I met you on screen and I just loved you,” Gina said. “Your bright smile, your fierce persona, that independent voice that burst through every performance and every interview. I just wanted to be just like Rita.”

“You gave me hope, you gave me a reason to fight and to speak up you gave me a voice and how can I thank you? I’m not sure how but I can tell you this: when you followed your dreams Rita, you gave me the allowance to follow mine,” she added. “You are my icon, my living legend and what matters most is my friend. Rita this is my love letter to you.”

Kennedy Center Honorees 2015 - Meet the Five Legends!

With just a few hours left until the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors special airs, let’s take some time to meet the five legendary artists being honored tonight.

Here are the five stars who will get tributes:

  • Rita Moreno – Actress and singer who is one of the 12 people to have earned an EGOT – an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. She is best known for her work in the film West Side Story, the Broadway play The Ritz, and her new role on Jane the Virgin.
  • George Lucas – Renowned filmmaker and National Medal of Arts winner who created the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. He founded Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic, two of the most groundbreaking film companies. His wife Mellody Hobson will make a special tribute to him tonight!
  • Seiji Ozawa – Grammy Award and Emmy Award-winning conductor known for advocating for modern composers.
  • Carole King – Four-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She has written some of music’s biggest hits like “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” and “Natural Woman,” as well as her own hits like “You’ve Got a Friend” and “Beautiful.”
  • Cicely Tyson – Oscar-nominated, Emmy-winning, and Tony-winning actress who is best known for her work in the television movie The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, the miniseries Roots, the movie The Help, and Broadway plays such as The Trip to Bountiful.

Miranda Lambert & Kerry Washington Celebrate Kennedy Center Honors Recipients!

Miranda Lambert and Kerry Washington lend their support at the Artist’s Dinner honoring the recipients of the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors held at the U.S. Department of State on Saturday (December 5) in Washington, D.C.

The 32-year-old entertainer and Kerry, 38, were joined at the event by Secretary of State John Kerry, who hosted the dinner, as well as Stephen Colbert, Rosie Perez, and this year’s honorees: conductor Seiji Ozawa, actress and singer Rita Moreno, singer-songwriter Carole King, filmmaker George Lucas, and actress and Broadway star Cicely Tyson.

The gala will broadcast on December 29 at 9:00p.m. ET/PT on CBS!

Kennedy Center Honorees 2015 Announced: George Lucas, Carole King & More!

George Lucas, Cicely Tyson, Rita Moreno, singer-songwriter Carole King, and more have been selected to receive the his year’s prestigious Kennedy Center Honors.

Also among the honorees are conductor Seiji Ozawa and the Eagles, Variety reports.

The gala will be taking place on December 6 and will be broadcast on December 29 on CBS. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are expected to attend the gala, with lots more celebrity guests.

“Each honoree and their career-spanning achievements exemplify a rare quality of artistic bravery,” Kennedy Center president Deborah Rutter said in a statement. “They have pushed the limits of their gifts as musicians, actors, and storytellers to inspire generations of Americans and those around the world.”
