The President and the Vice President gave a speech on Tuesday night (April 20) following the guilty verdict given to Derek Chauvin in the murder of George Floyd.

“Today we feel a sigh of relief, still, it cannot take away the pain. A measure of justice isn’t the same as equal justice. This verdict brings us a step closer, and the fact is, we still have work to do. We still must reform the system,” the Vice President said.

“Black men, in particular, have been treated throughout the course of our history as less than human…their lives must be valued in our education system, in our healthcare system, in our housing system, in our economic system, in our criminal justice system, in our nation. Full stop,” she continued.

The President of the United States, who is expected to address the nation later in the evening on Tuesday (April 20) regarding the verdict, watched the verdict with Vice President Kamala Harris and staff in the private dining room of the White House, according to a spokesperson.

Former Vice President Mike Pence is recovering from surgery.

The 61-year-old politican underwent surgery to have a pacemaker implanted after experiencing “symptoms associated with a slow heart rate,” his office said in a statement on Thursday (April 15), NBC News reported.

The “routine” surgery was successfully performed one day before on Wednesday (April 14), according to the statement from the former Vice President’s office. He is “expected to fully recover and return to normal activity in the coming days.”

President Joe Biden is making a new announcement about the coronavirus vaccine.

The President of the United States announced on Tuesday (April 6) that all adults will be eligible to receive the vaccine by April 19.

“No more confusing rules, no more confusing restrictions,” he said from the White House, bumping up the original promised date of May 1 by almost two weeks.

He also issued a warning: “We aren’t at the finish line. We still have a lot of work to do. We still are in a life and death race against this virus.”

He added that the administration has made a “dramatic turnaround” in vaccine distribution since he took office, with more than 150 million shots administered. He has a goal of 200 million by April 30, which is also his 100th day in office.

He encouraged everyone to get the vaccine, as “we’re getting more and more data on just how effective” the shots are.

“What we do know will determine how many people we save or lose in April and May and in the month of June,” Biden said, once again saying his goal is a return to normalcy by the 4th of July.

Representative Matt Gaetz is reportedly under investigation.

The 38-year-old Republican congressman representing Florida is being investigated by the Justice Department over a possible sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl, sources told the New York Times reported Tuesday (March 30).

The investigators are looking into whether Mr. Gaetz violated federal sex trafficking laws, according to the report.

“A variety of federal statutes make it illegal to induce someone under 18 to travel over state lines to engage in sex in exchange for money or something of value. The Justice Department regularly prosecutes such cases, and offenders often receive severe sentences,” the news outlet reported.

It is unclear how the congressman met the girl, who is believed to be 17 at the time of their alleged encounter two years ago. The investigation began in the final months of the Trump administration under Attorney General William P. Barr, according to the report.

The three NYT sources also said that the investigation is part of a broader investigation into a political ally, a local official in Florida named Joel Greenberg, who was indicted last year on charges including sex trafficking of a child and financially supporting people in exchange for sex, at least one of whom was an underage girl.

No charges have been brought against the congressman.

“I only know that it has to do with women. I have a suspicion that someone is trying to recategorize my generosity to ex-girlfriends as something more untoward,” Gaetz said in a statement.
