Beyonce is being honored in a historic way.
The 37-year-old Lemonade music icon’s portrait will be added to the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection in Washington, D.C., Vogue confirmed on Tuesday (August 6).
The Tyler Mitchell-photographed portrait, which originally appeared in Beyonce‘s Vogue September 2018 issue, is now being featured in the museum.
The image is Beyonce in a Valentino dress and Philip Treacy hat.
“A year ago today we broke the flood gates open. Since then it was important to spend the whole year running through them making sure every piece of the gate was knocked down. And now I’m glad to share this picture is being acquired into the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection,” Tyler wrote on his Instagram. See more from the historic shoot!
