ABC Drops First 'Wonder Years' Reboot Teaser With Don Cheadle Narrating!

The first teaser for the upcoming Wonder Years reboot is here!

ABC dropped a first look at the new series, which is expected to premiere on the network this fall.

Here’s a summary of the rebooted series: The Wonder Years is a coming of age story set in the late 1960s that takes a nostalgic look at a black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama through the point-of-view of imaginative 12 year-old Dean.

With the wisdom of his adult years, Dean’s hopeful and humorous recollections show how his family found their wonder years’ in a turbulent time.

The Wonder Years stars Elisha Williams, Dule Hill, Saycon Sengbloh, Laura Kariuki, Julian Lerner, Amari O’Neil, Milan Ray and Don Cheadle, as the adult Dean Williams narrating the series.

Don Cheadle to Narrate 'The Wonder Years' Reboot Pilot

Don Cheadle has joined The Wonder Years reboot pilot!

The 56-year-old Iron Man actor has signed on to narrate the upcoming reboot pilot for ABC, The Wrap confirms.

Don will be voicing the adult version of the show’s character Dean as he reflects on his younger self growing up in 1968 in Montgomery, Alabama.

Earlier this month, it was announced that newcomer Elisha Williams had been cast to play the young Dean.

The cast also includes Saycon Sengbloh, Dulé Hill, and Laura Kariuki.

The new version of The Wonder Years will focus on how a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, in the turbulent late 1960s made sure it was “the wonder years” for them, too.

Back in January, it was announced that ABC had ordered a pilot for the reboot, which will be produced by Lee Daniels. Fred Savage, who rose to fame starring in the original, will also serve as an executive producer and will be directing the pilot.

Elisha Williams Cast in 'Wonder Years' Reboot - See His Reaction to the News!

Elisha Williams just got some incredible news!

Elisha has joined the cast of the Wonder Years reboot at ABC, per Variety.

The young actor found out he had won the role from the Wonder Year’s original lead Fred Savage over Zoom.

“We got you on this Zoom because we wanted to welcome you to the family and tell you that it’s your turn to be the star of The Wonder Years,” Fred tells a smiling Elisha. “It’s your part, man. Welcome.”

Elisha will play Dean, an inquisitive and hopeful 12-year-old growing up in 1968 in Montgomery, Alabama. The show follows Dean as he tries to figure out his role in his Black family and the world at large.

It was announced that the show was being rebooted back in July. ABC ordered a pilot of the series in January.

The show is being helmed by Lee Daniels, who known for creating the TV series Empire and directing the movie The Butler.

Saycon Sengbloh Cast in Lead Role for 'The Wonder Years' Reboot Pilot

The Wonder Years has cast its first character!

Saycon Sengbloh has been cast as the mom in the upcoming reboot pilot for the beloved comedy series, Deadline reports.

The new version of The Wonder Years will focus on how a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, in the turbulent late 1960s made sure it was “the wonder years” for them, too.

The 43-year-old actress will be playing Lillian Williams. “Sharp as a tack, Lillian is confident, kind, perceptive and has a good sense of humor. She knows exactly the right thing to say to convince you of anything. As a mother, wife and full-time accountant, she’s organized, efficient and hard-working, but she always puts family first.”

Back in January, it was announced that ABC had ordered a pilot for the reboot, which will be produced by Lee Daniels. Fred Savage, who rose to fame starring in the original, will also serve as an executive producer and will be directing the pilot.

Saycon earned a Tony nomination and won a Drama Desk Award and an Obie Award for her performance in Danai Gurira’s Broadway show Eclipsed. She currently appears in the OWN series Delilah and has had roles on Scandal, In the Dark, and Ten Days in the Valley. Saycon will appear alongside Jennifer Hudson in the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic Respect.

ABC Orders Pilot For Lee Daniels' 'The Wonder Years' Reboot

ABC is moving forward with its’ Wonder Years reboot.

The network announced today that the Lee Daniels produced series has given a formal pilot order to start shooting, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The new version of the popular series will focus on how a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, in the turbulent late 1960s made sure it was “the wonder years” for them, too.

The original series, which aired from 1988 to 1993, centered on a white middle-class family.

The show made its young stars, Fred Savage and Danica McKellar, into household names.

Fred will be part of the new series as an executive producer and will direct the pilot, too.

Plans for the reboot were announced in the summer of 2020.

Lee Daniels & Fred Savage to Produce 'Wonder Years' Reboot Featuring a Black Family

The Wonder Years is coming back.

30 years after the show ended, ABC is teaming with Empire‘s Lee Daniels and Fred Savage to reboot the classic coming-of-age series, which will now feature a Black family, THR reported Wednesday (July 8).

“The comedy has received a sizable pilot-production commitment and will open a mini-writers’ room once the network approves the script. The goal, per sources, is for the new Wonder Years to be developed for the 2021-22 television season,” the outlet reports.

The original series starred Fred in the 1960s suburbs, and the new version “focuses on how a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, in the turbulent late ’60s made sure it was ‘the wonder years’ for them, too.”

Original series co-creator Neal Marlens is attached as a consultant. Fred will also be directing. We’re excited to see the re-imagined series!
