Ellen Pompeo Says Goodbye to 'Grey's Anatomy' Co-Stars Sarah Drew & Jessica Capshaw

Ellen Pompeo is bidding farewell to two of her longtime Grey’s Anatomy co-stars.

After Thursday night’s (April 19) episode, the 48-year-old actress shared two separate goodbye posts on Instagram to Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw after they made their final appearances on the ABC medical drama.

“Boom… @thank you @jessicacapshaw for bringing it the way you have brought it for 10 amazing years… what a blessing you are and what a contribution you made to television history,” Ellen wrote to Jessica. “Lit that screen up with your glow on the LGBT community… making a difference and making it all look so easy… ⭐️⭐️⭐️💥💥❤️💔⭐️GOAT #representationmatters #loveyou”

While honoring Sarah, Ellen wrote, ““THANK YOU to this lady….@thesarahdrew you served up the sugar and spice for 9 years and it’s been a blast. Your passion and talent for storytelling has touched so many people provoked thought and Greys is a better show because of it and you. #japrilfansdontplay.”

Back in March, it was announced that Sarah and Jessica would be exiting Grey’s after season 14, and Ellen quickly put an end to rumors that her major salary increase was to blame.

Sarah Drew Lands Post-'Grey's Anatomy' Role in 'Cagney & Lacey' Reboot

It doesn’t look like Sarah Drew is going to be leaving our televisions anytime soon!

The 37-year-old actress – who has played April Kepner on Grey’s Anatomy for the past nine seasons – as signed on to play one of the leads in the upcoming CBS reboot of Cagney and Lacey, Hollywood Reporter reports.

Sarah will be playing Cagney alongside Blindspot star Michelle Hurd who will be playing Lacey.

Cagney is described as an easygoing partner and protegee to Lacey – who is described as athletic and polished.

It was announced last week that Sarah and co-star Jessica Capshaw were let go of Grey’s Anatomy and will not be returning to the medical drama for season 15 next year.

Cagney and Lacey
is set to premiere next fall.

Ellen Pompeo Fires Back at Hate Over 'Grey's Anatomy' Exits

Ellen Pompeo‘s mentions have been blowing up ever since it was announced that Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew would be leaving Grey’s Anatomy at the end of the season.

The 48-year-old actress has already defended herself and said her high salary is not the reason for the exits.

Still, people are attacking her, the show, and the women for the sudden departures.

“We R grateful all of you are so passionate but if you knew these two women the way I know them they would not approve of all this nastiness,” Ellen posted. “They both are super shiny happy people. I know you’re angry but you’re representation couldn’t be further from who these women actually are.”

When a fan questioned, “Aren’t we allowed to be angry at this injustice, though? Going to be two impossible holes to fill,” Ellen responded, “You are but spreading acceptance and love is our message with Greys and what all of the actors try to do with our performances on this show.”

'Grey's Anatomy' Showrunner Slams Idea That Ellen Pompeo's Salary Caused Jessica Capshaw & Sarah Drew Exits

There has been some chatter on social media that Ellen Pompeo‘s $20 million Grey’s Anatomy payday is the reason that Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew are exiting the show after season 14.

Co-showrunner and executive producer Krista Vernoff is speaking out about saying the decision to move on from the two actresses was a creative decision and not because of Ellen.

“The suggestion … that our cast changes are in any way related to Ellen Pompeo‘s salary renegotiation is wrong and hurtful and misguided,” Krista wrote in a statement. “It smacks of an old, broken, patriarchal notion that women must be pitted against each other and that one woman’s success will be costly to others. Ellen Pompeo has not only advocated passionately for her fellow cast members, she has taken the time to educate women worldwide as to how to advocate for themselves and that must not now be twisted. The decision to make changes to our cast was a creative one. The only thing as constant on Grey’s Anatomy as Ellen Pompeo is our penchant for reinvention. It is a part of our success and what keeps the show exciting. We love these actresses and we love these characters and it felt true and right creatively to wrap up their stories. And that is the whole story.”

If you missed it, you can see Jessica Capshaw‘s reaction to the news and Sarah Drew‘s statement regarding her exit.

Sarah Drew Speaks About Shocking 'Grey's Anatomy' Exit

Sarah Drew has issued a response to the report that she’s exiting Grey’s Anatomy after season 14 wraps.

“I know you’re sad. I’m sad, too. I haven’t really had time to process the information. I’ve been with it for less than 48 hours so I’m not ready to say my thank yous and give an all encompassing statement. That will come later,” Sarah posed on social media about leaving the show and the role of Dr. April Kepner. “For now, I’d like to say: I love you April and her story isn’t over yet,” she continues. “And the really good news (for me at least), is that I’m here on set shadowing one of my favorite people, Kevin McKidd, with my beloved Grey’s family all this week and next, so I get to process my feelings surrounded by the community that has nourished and nurtured me for almost a decade. For that I am grateful.”

Jessica Capshaw will also be leaving the show, and spoke out about the exit.
