Chris Evans & Ryan Gosling Will Star in Netflix's Most Expensive Movie Yet

Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling will star in the upcoming movie The Gray Man, which is set to be the most expensive movie ever made by Netflix.

Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are directing the movie, which has a budget upward of $200 million, according to Deadline.

The action thriller has the potential of becoming a franchise for Ryan‘s character. The story is described as “a deadly duel between killers as Gentry (Gosling) is hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Evans), a former cohort of Gentry’s at the CIA.”

“The movie is a real mano a mano between those two great actors who represent two different versions of the CIA, in what it can be, and what it can do,” Anthony Russo told Deadline. “For those who were fans of Captain America: Winter Soldier, this is us moving into that territory in more of a real-world setting. That’s what this movie really means for us.”

Joe Russo added, “The intention is for it to be competitive with any theatrical, and the ability to do with with Gosling and Evans is a dream for us. The idea is to create a franchise and build out a whole universe, with Ryan at the center of it. We have all committed to the first movie, and that’s got to be great to get us to the second movie. These are master assassins, and Gosling’s characters gets burned by the CIA and Evans’ character has to hunt him down. We have a great working relationship with Netflix, and we go back almost 20 years with Scott Stuber. We formed AGBO to be an agnostic storytelling company, where we figure out the best platform. We think Netflix is the perfect place for this film.”

Chris Evans Talks About Losing This Role to Ryan Gosling

Chris Evans is opening up about the best audition he ever gave and how he still didn’t get the role.

The 38-year-old actor said that it was “tough” when he lost the lead role in the 2007 movie Fracture, a role that Ryan Gosling ended up getting.

“You know which one was a close one? Fracture. Remember Fracture with Ryan Gosling? I honestly have never had a better audition in my life,” Chris said in an interview with THR. “I hate auditioning. I despise it. I think most actors do, but I got that one and knocked it right out. And it was so great and I had such a great rapport with the director and really felt like it was coming my way.”

Chris added, “Anthony Hopkins was already attached and you really think, this is another one of those moments where I might be able to turn a corner. And to lose that one… obviously, Ryan, if you’re going to lose to someone, lose to Ryan. But it was just one of those things where you think, ‘Man, this is tough.’”

Other movies that Chris missed out on around that same time were Gone Baby Gone, Milk, and Elizabethtown.

In the same interview, Chris explained why he almost turned down the role of Captain America.

That’s mainly why I have this page. So when I say I’m a ‘tired mama’ and want to connect to other ‘tired mamas’ it’s not about excluding the fathers or other caregivers that do so much. It’s just me connecting to other women but in no way does it de-value what papas do. And why I don’t talk about Ryan and all the wonderful things he does as a father is because I keep that part private.”

“I don’t want to involve him or how he parents because I don’t feel comfortable crossing that boundary that I have set for myself,” Eva continued. “I feel it’s best that I continue to disclose what I’m comfortable with but not involve him or my kids too much. It’s not about being cagey or weird, it’s just about staying private in a public space. Does that make sense? Hope so. Because this is my honest answer and I really do love connecting to you women. Happy to explain further. Sending so much love.”
