Angelina Jolie is opening up about her family and how she wants to honor the “roots” of her adopted children.

The 45-year-old actress spoke to Vogue in a brand new interview that was published this week.

“Each is a beautiful way of becoming family,” Angelina said about having kids biologically vs. adopting kids. “What is important is to speak with openness about all of it and to share. ‘Adoption’ and ‘orphanage’ are positive words in our home. With my adopted children, I can’t speak of pregnancy, but I speak with much detail and love about the journey to find them and what it was like to look in their eyes for the first time.”

“All adopted children come with a beautiful mystery of a world that is meeting yours,” she added. “When they are from another race and foreign land, that mystery, that gift, is so full. For them, they must never lose touch with where they came from. They have roots that you do not. Honor them. Learn from them. It’s the most amazing journey to share. They are not entering your world — you are entering each other’s worlds.”

Angelina and ex-husband Brad Pitt‘s 18-year-old son Maddox was adopted from Cambodia, their 16-year-old son Pax was adopted from Vietnam, and 15-year-old daughter Zahara was adopted from Ethiopia. The former couple also are the parents of 14-year-old daughter Shiloh and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

In the interview, Angelina opened up about why she split from Brad.

Brad Pitt was asked when he plans to celebrate awards season with his six children.

“Really, it hasn’t been a lot of time to celebrate, you know? It’s like — they call it a season for a reason. So we’ll do that when it’s all said and done, I’m sure,” Brad told ET.

If you don’t know, Brad and his ex wife Angelina Jolie share Maddox, 18, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 13, and Knox and Vivienne, 11.

Maddox recently spoke about the rumors about his relationship with Brad and addressed where they stand.

Brad Pitt won a Golden Globe for his work in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and some fans were left wondering something after his acceptance speech.

Brad didn’t mention his six children with his ex Angelina Jolie during the speech.

A source close to Brad reportedly told TMZ that the reason he omitted his kids from his speech was actually strategic, as “he never mentions them publicly and wants it to remain that way.” Brad believes that by mentioning his kids, it could cause them unwanted attention.

The couple shared Maddox, 18, Pax, 16, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 11.

Maddox recently spoke about the rumors about his relationship with Brad and addressed where they stand.

The 44-year-old actress and her kids – Knox, Zahara, Pax, Vivienne, and Shiloh – hit the red carpet at the event held at El Capitan Theatre on Monday (September 30) in Los Angeles.

Angelina‘s sixth child, Maddox, is currently attending school in South Korea.

Angelina donned a one-shoulder black chainmail gown with a scorpion-inspired design.

Angelina Jolie poses for a photo with all six of her kids in a rare family outing for a special screening of Netflix’s The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind on Monday (February 25) at the Crosby Street Hotel in New York City.

The 43-year-old actress hosted the screening and moderated a Q&A with the film’s director and star Chiwetel Ejiofor and the man who inspired the film, William Kamkwamba.

Angelina brought all six of her kids – Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 12, and ten-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox – to the screening.

Other stars there included David Schwimmer, Abbi Jacobson, Neve Campbell, Christian Slater, Edward Norton, Asia Kate Dillon, Gina Gershon, and more. The movie launches on Netflix this Friday.

A few days earlier, Angelina was joined by four of the kids for a documentary screening.

Angelina Jolie is joined by four of her six children while attending the premiere of the documentary Serendipity on Thursday (February 21) at the MoMA in New York City.

The 43-year-old actress posed for photos on the red carpet with Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, and Shiloh, 12.

The family was in attendance at the premiere to support Prune Nourry, who made the film about her journey with breast cancer, from diagnosis through treatement.

“I’m honored to be here to support my dear friend, Prune Nourry, and to introduce a unique, brave and mesmerizing film,” she said at the premiere (via People). “A tribute to the spirit of a woman, and a journey into the mind and soul of a true artist.”

“I think in the process, she helps all of us to feel a little more brave, more connected to our bodies and to each other, more willing to accept our own scars, and better able to understand that these things too are part of life, and part of what it is to be a woman,” she added. “Cancer is a word that still strikes fear in us. But fear often comes from not knowing what our choices and options are. Even if it can’t always be conquered, fear can be met head-on with the support of others.”

Angelina and her ex Brad Pitt are also the parents of 10-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
