'Power' Prequel Series Finds Its Star: Patina Miller!

The upcoming Power prequel series, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, just found its star!

Tony Award-winner Patina Miller is set to star in the upcoming series, Deadline reported on Wednesday (February 19).

She will play Raquel Thomas.

Here’s a character description: “To the streets, Raquel ‘Raq’ Thomas is cold, hard, and fierce; a successful and deadly woman taking names in a man’s world. She is tough, resolute, ruthless and yet, Raq is still capable of love. Great love. The sole recipient of that affection is her son, Kanan – he is everything to her. As much as she cares for him though, there are many instances where one wonders if she loves him for who he is, or if she loves him merely as an extension of herself. The middle child of three, Raq also carries the heavy burden as the earner for her two brothers. Raq is the sun, and everyone else in her universe exists in her orbit.”

Power Book III is a prequel set in the ’90s, centering around the early years of Kanan Stark, originally portrayed by 50 Cent.

Here’s what to expect from the other Power spin-off shows…

Ben Platt & Zoe Saldana Team Up at National Arts Awards

Ben Platt poses for a photo with Zoe Saldana while attending the 2019 National Arts Awards on Monday night (October 21) at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

The 26-year-old The Politician actor was honored with the Ted Arison Young Artists Award during the event.

“It’s a real privilege that I get to do what I love. I grew up overly blessed — my parents instilled in me many beautiful things, not the least of which is the arts. And I had unbelievable access to arts education, which allowed me to flex my talent and find my tribe and my belonging. This is holy work being done: ensuring that arts education is for everyone, not just the people lucky enough to be born into it like I was,” Ben said during his speech.

Zoe, who was joined by husband Marco Perego, was on hand to present the Carolyn Clark Powers Lifetime Achievement Award to artist Luchita Hurtado.

Also in attendance at the event were singer Ben Folds and Tony winner Patina Miller.

FYI: Zoe Saldana is wearing Givenchy with Jared Lehr earrings. Ben Platt is wearing Prada.

Octavia Spencer Does Not Feel Bad About Speaking Up For Diversity in Hollywood!

Octavia Spencer is very aware of the lack of diversity in Hollywood and she’s not afraid to speak up about it!

“Since making Hidden Figures, I don’t have a problem saying to a room of male executives: ‘I need a female writer or a female director,’ or ‘I need a black voice or a Latin voice’,” the 46-year-old Oscar-winning actress recently told the New York Times. “I do not feel bad about it.”

“The big boys were big boys,” Octavia added about speaking up in meetings in the past. “They heard me and encouraged me to have a voice, always listened to my needs. We as women should always ask for what we need and might be surprised that there might not be as much resistance as we perhaps perceive.”

Octavia rocked a sophisticated ensemble to attend the 2016 UNICEF Snowflake Ball last night, Tuesday (November 29), alongside Maggie Q, Tea Leoni, Patina Miller, Brooke Burke and her hubby David Charvet, Meryl Davis, Kyle MacLachlan and his wife Desiree Gruber at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

FYI: Octavia is wearing a black tuxedo jacket and matching pants by Laura Basci. Brooke is wearing a Rubin Singer gown.
