Trump Mocks 'Parasite' for Oscar Wins, Neon Studios Issues Epic Response

Donald Trump is lashing out at the movie Parasite for winning the top awards at the Oscars.

During the president’s rally in Colorado, he addressed the awards show and criticized the Academy for awarding a movie from South Korea.

“How bad were the Academy Awards this year? Did you see it?” he asked the crowd. “The winner is… a movie from South Korea! What the hell was that all about? We got enough problems with South Korea with trade. On top of that, they give them best movie of the year? Was it good? I don’t know. Let’s get Gone With the Wind. Can we get Gone With the Wind back, please?”

“So many great movies… the winner is from South Korea!” Trump continued. “I thought it was best foreign film, right? Best foreign movie. Did this ever happen before?”

Parasite actually made history as the first foreign-language film to ever win Best Picture at the Oscars.

Neon Studios, the studio that distributed Parasite in the U.S., issued an epic response to the comments.

“Understandable, he can’t read,” the studio tweeted.

'Parasite' Director Bong Joon-ho Reveals What Martin Scorsese Told Him After Oscar Win!

Oscar-winning Parasite director Bong Joon-ho is still on a high from his big win!

While attending a press conference for the film on Wednesday (February 19) in Seoul, South Korea, the Korean director said the film’s “biggest pleasure and the most significant meaning” to him is that it succeeded even though the audiences might feel uncomfortable with his explicit description of bitter wealth disparity in modern society.

“Audiences might hate that or feel uncomfortable to watch it but I thought the only option I can have for this movie is depicting the world we live as frankly as possible though that might be risky commercially,” Bong Joon-ho said (via THR).

Bong Joon-ho was joined by his cast members Song Kang-ho, Cho Yeo-jeong, Lee Sun-kyun, Park So-Dam, Chang Hye-jin, Lee Jeong-eun and Park Myung-Hoon, as well as editor Yang Jin-mo, writer Han Jin-won and producer Kwak Sin-ae at the press conference.

Parasite won the Best Picture category at the 2020 Oscars for the first time as a non-English language film, and director Martin Scorsese made sure to congratulate Bong Joon-ho on his big win.

“I just read his letter a few hours ago and it was an honor,” Bong said. “He said I did a good job and should rest, but only a little because he and everyone else was eagerly waiting for my next film.”

The film brought in $5.5 million over the weekend – a 234% increase in ticket sales, marking the biggest post-Oscars boost in the past decade. The movie has brought in $8.8 million since the ceremony. To date, Parasite has made $44 million in the United States, resulting in a global earning of $175 million.

It is the first non-English film in history to win the Best Picture award. Here’s why Bong Joon-ho only gets to keep three out of four Oscars for Parasite

Here's Why Bong Joon-ho Only Gets to Keep 3 Out of 4 Oscars for 'Parasite' Wins

The movie Parasite won four awards at the 2020 Oscars and while it seems filmmaker Bong Joon-ho would be eligible to receive all of them, he only gets to take home three trophies.

The South Korean film won the awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film – and Bong was on stage to accept all four of them.

Bong is the producer, director, and co-writer of the movie, so he gets to take home the awards for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. While you’d think that the producers and director would take home the Best International Feature Film award, this award is actually not given to any specific person.

The Oscars’ Best International Feature Film award is considered to be an award for the country where the film is from. For this category, each country is allowed to submit one film that it believes to be the best film of the year from that country. The Oscar statue for this award is often displayed in museums in the country that wins.

Winning three Oscars is pretty cool though!
