Hilary Duff Announces 'Lizzie McGuire' Reboot Is Officially Done - Here's Why

The Lizzie McGuire reboot is officially done, Hilary Duff just revealed.

If you don’t know, Disney+ announced last August that they were reviving the hit Disney Channel series, but things have been rocky since.

Hilary reprised her titular role as Lizzie and actually filmed two episodes before production was halted after original creator Terri Minsky left over creative differences.

Hilary then spoke out on social media to address the situation, saying that she hoped that Disney+ would let the Lizzie McGuire reboot be moved to Hulu so that they could explore more mature storylines on the show.

On Wednesday (December 16), Hilary posted, “I’ve been so honored to have the character of Lizzie in my life. She has made such a lasting impact on many, including myself. To see the fans’ loyalty and love for her, to this day, means so much to me.”

Hilary Duff Gives New Update on 'Lizzie McGuire' Reboot, Talks Possible 'Hannah Montana' Crossover

Hilary Duff started working on a Lizzie McGuire reboot series, but then the series was put on pause due to creative differences between the show’s creator and Disney+.

Now, the 32-year-old actress is giving another update on the status of the show and she’s even talking about a cool Hannah Montana crossover idea!

“I feel just as excited as everyone else,” Hilary told Cosmopolitan about the show. “Obviously, I have felt love for that character and I feel particularly dedicated to the fans about making the exact show that it should be. So you know, we started shooting, we stopped shooting and went back to the drawing board with Disney+, Disney, and myself to come up with something that works for all of us, and we’re still in the middle of that process. Everything kind of got put on hold, especially now because of COVID. But no, we’re talking weekly and I feel really good about it. It’s a work in progress.”

The outlet brought up the idea of a Lizzie/Hannah crossover since Miley Cyrus has credited Hilary as inspiration for her work.

“Oh my god, I’ve never heard that one. But you might be starting something right now,” Hilary said. “I love Miley, I recently was on her show that she created during the quarantine, and she’s just awesome. She’s always showing me so much love and it kind of embarrasses me in a way. I’m like, come on, you’re like the epitome of cool and it’s really sweet that she’s just so vocal about being a fan growing up with me and I love her. And I don’t know, I’ve never thought about a Hannah Montana and Lizzie McGuire crossover, but never say never! Anything goes these days, right?”

Hilary Duff Isn't Giving Up Hope on the 'Lizzie McGuire' Reboot

Hilary Duff isn’t giving up on Lizzie McGuire just yet.

Disney+ announced last August that they were reviving the hit Disney Channel series, but things have been rocky ever since.

The 32-year-old actress reprised her titular role as Lizzie and filmed two episodes before production was halted after original creator Terri Minsky left over creative differences.

Hilary then spoke out on social media to address the situation, saying that she hopes that Disney+ would let the Lizzie McGuire reboot be moved to Hulu so that they could explore more mature storylines on the show.

“It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again,” Hilary said at the time.

Now in a new interview, Hilary shared an update on the reboot.

“We are very much still in conversation with them a couple of times a week, which is really nice,” Hilary shared with E! News. “We started shooting, and then obviously that got on hold for a couple of different reasons not involving the pandemic. But you know what, I have high hopes that we are going to make it work.”

Hilary continued: “It’s like a responsibility to [Lizzie], honoring her and the fanbase that grew up with her. We kind of put her on pause, and had to go back to the drawing board, but I feel optimistic that it will happen.”

Hulu Boss Updates Fans On Status of The Future of Lizzie McGuire At The Network

There’s been an update about the status of The Lizzie McGuire Show revival – and we’re sad to say that it’s not the news we were looking for.

In a Zoom interview with Vanity Fair, Craig Erwich, Hulu’s head of original content, opened up about the possibility of moving the halted show over to the streaming network.

If you don’t know, The Lizzie McGuire Show reboot was set to get a second life on Disney+, however, production on the series was halted after creator Terri Minsky parted ways with it.

Shortly after, Disney stopped production altogether, and star Hilary Duff addressed the situation with her fans on social media.

“It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again,” she had said.

Craig was asked about the future of the series on Hulu and shared that there have been no conversations about it.

“I appreciate her fandom,” he said. “[But] we have not had any conversations with Hilary Duff around her show.”

“I’m still talking to [the team] weekly, I don’t know,” Hilary shared with Cosmo. “They were shooting and then everything was put on hold. And we’re just kind of figuring out if we can make this happen.”

Hilary was also asked how Lizzie would feel if Miranda and Paolo were to return in the reboot. As fans can remember in The Lizzie McGuire Movie Paolo tried to set Lizzie up for failure in order to embarrass European superstar Isabella.

“But there were plans for a lot of people to be in the show,” Hilary added. “So, um, I already know some of those things but I don’t know about Paolo. I think she’d probably be pretty mad to see him.”

Paolo was played by Yani Gellman in the movie.
