Lana Del Rey Says She Will 'Die an Underdog'

Lana Del Rey is getting candid about her beliefs.

The “Lust for Life” singer opened up in an interview with collaborator Jack Antonoff for Interview.

During their chat, Lana talked about her perspective on life amid the pandemic.

“I subscribe to the idea that what’s going on in the macrocosm, whether it be in the presidency or a virus that keeps us isolated, is a reflection of what’s going on in the individual home and inside bedrooms and what people intimately talk about. I think there’s been existential panic for a long time, but people haven’t been paying attention to it because they’ve been too busy buying shoes. And shoes are cute. I love shoes. But now that you can’t go shopping, you have to look at your partner and be like, ‘I’ve lived with you for 20 years, but do I even know you?’ You realize maybe you’ve only ever allowed yourself to scratch the surface of yourself because if you went any deeper, you might have a mild meltdown for no reason, just out of the blue, and no amount of talking could explain why,” she said.

“It’s just a part of your genetic makeup. You could just be prone to panic. I think a lot of people are that way. I got a lot of s–t for not only talking about it, but talking about lots of other things for a super long time. I don’t feel justified in it, because I’m not the kind of artist who’s ever going to get justified,” she continued.

“I will die an underdog and that’s cool with me. But I was right to ask, ‘Why are we here? Where did we come from? What are we doing? What happens if this insane, crazy, sci-fi crisis happens, and then you’re stuck with yourself, and you’re stuck with your partner who doesn’t pay attention to you?’ I’m not saying it’s more relevant than ever, but my concern for myself, the country, the world— I knew we weren’t prepared for something like this, mentally. I also think it’s a really good thing that we’ve gotten to this point where we have to bump up against ourselves, because it’s not going to be the same when the Beverly Center reopens.”

She recently released a recording of a poem, called “LA Who Am I To Love You” – listen to her recording!

Jack Antonoff Reflects on Creating 'Folklore' With Taylor Swift

The 36-year-old musician posted a sweet tribute to the 30-year-old Folklore singer-songwriter on release day Friday (July 24).

“working with taylor is a full connection to all of the wonder of making music. knowing her and making work with her gives me faith in the ability for people to grow. to actual grow. it has been a one of the most deeply important personal and creative relationships in my life. thank god i met you at that bizarre show in germany all those years ago. i adore you and i adore this album. thank you for listening and believing in what i was doing before i had produced a single record. damn taylor,” he wrote.

“there is a protective layer on the process with her that lets in zero cynicism. zero. songs are sacred and the way they sound have to hold the writing in the right home forever. finding that with her is magic. running forward on every album is magic. thank you for not letting up,” he continued.

“feels almost a shock that this all was even real. sending tracks back and forth. laura recording taylor’s vocals in another room in CA – me patched in from NY. maybe it was conditions that we had to make it under but i’ve never heard taylor sing better in my life / write better. all of it. recorded these songs in just a few takes. most of them full takes and not comped. sending her tracks for august and mirrorball and hearing what she would send back are moments that are mind blowing to me thinking back to the first time we did this on out of the woods — the feeling is the same, heaven. 4 together at this point. jesus taylor. can’t believe i got to type that. love you,” he went on to say.

He also revealed his two favorite songs he’s ever done with Taylor are on this album.
