Issa Rae Presents a Grammy Award to Tyler, The Creator

Issa Rae appears on stage to present an award at the 2020 Grammy Awards on Sunday (January 26) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The 35-year-old Insecure actress presented the Best Rap Album award to Tyler, the Creator for his album Igor.

Tyler, 28, was joined on stage by his mom, who was overcome with emotion over the big win. During his speech, he warned the audience that he might give a long speech as he wasn’t sure if he’d ever be back on that stage.

Issa Rae Takes Over Sundance Film Festival With 'The Photograph' & 'Insecure'

Issa Rae rocks a bold red look for the “A Lowkey Conversation With Issa Rae and Prentice Penny” during the 2020 Sundance Film Festival on Saturday night (January 25) at The Blackhouse in Park City, Utah.

Later on that same night, the 35-year-old actress and producer joined Prentice Penny, Jay Ellis, and Yvonne Orji at the Insecure Dinner presented by Our Stories to Tell at Firewood.

The night before, Issa was spotted out at the HERstory panel before stopping by the The Photograph panel with journalist Tre’vell Anderson and writer/director Stella Meghie.

Jamie Foxx, Jordan Peele & More Get Special Honors at AAFCA Awards 2020!

Jamie Foxx and Jordan Peele happily hit the stage to speak at The African American Film Critics Association’s 2020 AAFCA Awards held at the Taglyan Cultural Complex on Wednesday (January 22) in Hollywood.

The guys along with Eddie Murphy (not pictured) were among some of the honorees at the 11th annual ceremony in Los Angeles.

“People say so much about the other awards, but it’s special when it comes from your own people,” Jamie said (via USA Today), who won best supporting actor for his role in Just Mercy.

“It’s just special,” Jamie added after receiving the award from the organization, which actively reviews films with an emphasis on projects that include the black experience. The awards mainly highlight films produced, written, directed and starring people from the African diaspora along with other ethnic projects that break new ground.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were Sterling K. Brown, Issa Rae, Lena Waithe, Bong Joon Ho, Melina Matsoukas, Lil Rel Howery, Garcelle Beauvais and Trevor Jackson.

Issa Rae & Kumail Nanjiani Get Embroiled in a Murder Mystery in 'The Lovebirds' - Watch the Trailer!

The trailer for the new comedy The Lovebirds, starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani, has been released online!

The two stars play a couple that experiences a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery. As their journey to clear their names takes them from one extreme – and hilarious – circumstance to the next, they must figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night.

Also starring in the upcoming movie are Paul Sparks, Anna Camp, and Kyle Bornheimer.

Michael Showalter, who directed Kumail in his breakout movie The Big Sick, is directing The Lovebirds. The film hits theaters on April 3.

Issa Rae Shades Oscars 2020 After Reading Best Director Nominees

If you haven’t already seen, no women were nominated for a 2020 Oscar nomination this year in the Best Director category, despite some stellar work done by these directors this year.

Nominees included Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Irishman‘s Martin Scorsese, 1917‘s Sam Mendes, Bong Joon-ho for his movie Parasite and Todd Phillips for Joker.

Issa Rae helped announce the nominees for the 2020 Oscars this morning and she seemingly shaded the Academy after seeing the nominations in this category.

After announcing the nominees, Issa looked at the crowd and said, “Congratulations to those men.”

Issa Rae Is Developing Bollywood Crime Comedy Movie 'Badmash'!

Issa Rae is taking on Bollywood!

The Insecure creator and her ColorCreative production company partners are developing a Bollywood crime comedy called Badmash, THR reported on Wednesday (December 18).

Umbrella Academy writer Sneha Koorse pitched the “comedic noir inspired by one of India’s worst-kept secrets: Big-city gangsters used Bollywood films as a front to launder drug money.”

Badmash will “adopt the taut dialogue, tangled character webs and complex romance of the crime genre set against the backdrop of 1980s Mumbai at the height of the underworld’s power in the film industry. The goal is to make an English-language film with an South Asian ensemble cast, blending genre and culture to create a truly internationally feeling feature.”

“We started ColorCreative to give a platform to stories that the traditional studio system tends to overlook, stories like Badmash,” Issa said in a statement.
