The -year-old singer has been promoting her new album, Christmas: A Season of Love.
The new record actually features a “feminist” new holiday song that Idina sings with Ariana Grande – and it was actually written by the Frozen songwriters, Bobby and Kristen Lopez.
“I asked…if they would write me an original song for this album,” Idina started to explain of how the track came to be. “Kristen came back and she said, ‘Okay, I’ve written you a song, but it’s a feminist Christmas song. It’s called how about, ‘A Hand For Mrs. Claus?’ And I was trying to find a duet partner for it because I thought it should definitely be more than just one woman singing that.”
She adds that she feels very “lucky and grateful that Ariana Grande found the time in the middle of her tour to sing this song with me.”
“It was such a blast. She did such a great job. I’m a huge fan of hers. I met her when we were doing Wicked reunion show. She’s just the sweetest and what an incredible talent.”
“At This Table” is included on Idina‘s new holiday album, Christmas: A Season of Love, alongside Rent‘s “Seasons of Love” and a brand new feminist Christmas song called “A Hand For Mrs. Claus” with Ariana Grande.
Idina Menzel originated the role of Elphaba in the Wicked musical on Broadway back in 2003 and a feature film version is currently in the works.
So, who does Idina see playing the role of the green girl on screen?
Ariana Grande has been one name that keeps coming up in conversations for the movie and Idina recently worked with her on a duet for her Christmas album. While on Andy Cohen‘s SiriusXM show this week, the host asked about working with the young singer.
“I knew she was a fan because we did the Wicked reunion together. She sang ‘The Wizard and I.’ She’d be amazing [as Elphaba in the movie]. She kicked ass on ‘The Wizard and I.’ She sang stuff I never would have even thought of. I was like, ‘Why didn’t I ever sing it like that?!’” Idinasaid.
Sounds like Ariana‘s team is hoping she’ll land the role as her manager Scooter Braun retweeted the interview clip!
