Edgar Wright to Direct New Adaptation of Stephen King's Dystopian Horror Novel 'The Running Man'

Edgar Wright is taking on a new project!

According to Deadline, Edgar will direct an upcoming adaptation of The Running Man, the 1982 dystopian thriller novel written by Stephen King.

The novel is set in 2025, when the United States’ economy is floundering and violence is increasing across the globe. The story follows Ben Richards as he joins the game-show called “The Running Man” where participants travel all over the world as “Hunters” employed by the show attempt to track and kill them.

The book was very loosely adapted into a movie by the same name in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. Edgar‘s upcoming film will reportedly be a more faithful adaptation of the novel’s plot.

Robert Pattinson Auditioned for One of Chris Evans' Memorable Roles

Chris Evans is best known for his work as Captain America, but before starring in that movie he made a memorable appearance in the cult favorite Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Edgar Wright, the director of the movie, says that Robert Pattinson also auditioned for the role of Lucas Lee and he had a much different take on the character.

“I remember it vividly,” Edgar told Vanity Fair. “He did a much more intense read of it as well. Obviously, Robert is an incredible actor and someone who I’d love to work with now. But it was a very different take from what Chris did.”

“I remember we were asking him about Twilight, and he was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t know. I just saw it. It’s okay, I guess. I don’t know,’” casting director Allison Jones added. “He was really good at an American accent.”

The trailer for one of Robert‘s highly anticipated movies was just released!

Ansel Elgort Confirms 'Baby Driver 2' Has a Script & Title

The highly anticipated Baby Driver sequel is likely to happen, according to Ansel Elgort!

The 25-year-old The Fault in Our Stars actor has read the finished script, he told MTV News (via CinemaBlend).

Ansel‘s Baby Driver was released in summer 2017, earning $226 million worldwide and making it director Edgar Wright‘s highest-earning movie at the box office.

“He has shared it with me,” Ansel said about Edgar‘s script. “Yes, I think it’s going to happen. I think there will be a Baby Driver 2. It has a different title, actually. You’re gonna have to have to ask Edgar that, though.”

Though Edgar has never directed a traditional sequel before, he is eager to do one for Baby Driver.

“It is one of the ones that I might do a sequel to because I think there is somewhere more to go with it in terms of the characters, especially Baby,” Edgar said. “[With] most sequels, you have to contrive something so they go back to square one, unless there’s somewhere deeper for them to go. I think with Baby Driver there’s more that you can do in that realm, and I sort of have an idea that if you did another one you would subvert his involvement in the crime in a different way so he’s not kind of the apprentice anymore.”

Production on Baby Driver 2 is not likely to begin anytime soon, though, as Ansel Elgort is currently filming for West Side Story and will soon hit the promo trail for The Goldfinch. Edgar Wright is currently filming Last Night in Soho.

“What interested me was to show a side of him that was dynamic and energetic and funny — he wasn’t the curmudgeon we all assumed he was,” Gary said. “You imagine him to be grumpy all the time, and I am sure he sometimes was, but other times he looked like a baby. There was this boyish sweetness to him.”
