'After' Franchise to Expand with Hardin Prequel & Next Generation Sequel

The After franchise is getting two new movies!

Deadline reports that Castille Landon, who has directed the third and fourth films, is set to direct two new future installments in the franchise.

The prequel will be loosely based on Anna Todd‘s book “Before”, which follows Hardin as he navigates his first love before he met Tessa.

The sequel will focus on the next generation in the After universe, centering on the lives of Tessa and Hardin’s children, Emery and Auden, and their cousin Addy as they grow up.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who has played Hardin in all four of the After films, will not reprise his role for the prequel. He and Josephine Langford will also not appear in the sequel, which features Tessa and Hardin in supporting roles.

Castille said in a statement, “Seeing After We Fell and After Ever Happy come together in the edit has inspired us to continue expanding the universe, exploring the origins of the characters we already know and love and giving life to the next generation. I’m excited to have the opportunity to broaden the relatable themes already established in the series and introduce Hardin and Tessa’s teenage children to a modern landscape.”

'After We Collided' Director Opens Up About the Movie's Steamy Sex Scenes

After We Collided is one hot movie, and director Roger Kumble is opening up about the film, which stars Josephine Langford, Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Dylan Sprouse.

The Cruel Intentions director opened up about the second film in the After franchise in an interview with ET.

During the conversation, he talked about the sex scenes in the film.

“It kind of complements it. You always walk a fine line and it’s true. Like, you get some people on Twitter going, ‘It wasn’t enough.’ And it’s just like, well, I’m not making a porno film, I’m making a movie. We’re sensual, but we’re not that. But yeah, it was really fun to play with these characters in this world and I, for one, am thrilled to see what the next director [Castille Landon] brings to it,” he said.

He talked about paying fan service as well.

“I continue to engage with the fandom. There are people who love it. There are people who are like, ‘You made it too funny.’ And I said, ‘You know what? Let’s have a tribunal in a few weeks. You could put me on the stand and I’ll defend my reasons of why I made the choices I made.’ This is kind of an interesting experiment; it’s not about trolling. It’s more about this is a passionate fanbase and we can have an interesting conversation,” he explained.

He also reacted to Demi Lovato saying Cruel Intentions helped her realize she was queer.

“I’m proud when I see things like that. I wrote that [movie] in ’97 and we filmed it in ’98. The most important thing to me was Sebastian can be vile but he has a gay best friend and he doesn’t care. But the fact that he didn’t care that Blaine was gay or that the girls were using their sexuality, they brought it into the mainstream. So I love it when I get tweets from people saying, “Ryan [Phillippe]‘s butt made me gay.” Like, that’s amazing. This is the greatest compliment I could ever get in my career. Whatever I could do to help somebody through my work, I mean, I love that. I thought that was so cool of her. I posted it and so did Sarah and Selma. It’s just great.”

'After' Franchise Loses Shane Paul McGhie for 3rd & 4th Movies

The third and fourth movies in the After franchise are currently being filmed, but they won’t feature one of the original stars.

Shane Paul McGhie has announced that he will not be returning to play Landon in After We Fell and After Ever After. It has been rumored that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina actor Chance Perdomo has replaced him in the movies.

“It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing I will not be filming in Bulgaria,” Shane wrote in an Instagram story. “We could not come to an agreement and I had to make a really tough call. I had to stand up for me, the way that Landon would.”

“I am so grateful to you all for welcoming me into the After family and for supporting me along this incredible journey,” he continued. “I have felt your love from around the world and that has been the biggest blessing and honor. I have seen how, for a lot of you, After has changed your lives and been a light during dark times.”

Shane wants his fans to be graceful to whoever replaces him.

“Please welcome the actor who replaces me and treat him with the respect and love you’ve been giving me since the first day I was first brought on,” Shane said.
