Cynthia Erivo Will Star in a Remake of 'The Rose'

Cynthia Erivo is headed back to the big screen once more.

The 34-year-old Genius: Aretha star is set to star in the remake of The Rose.

According to Deadline, Cynthia will also produce the remake of the 1979 musical film.

The original starred Bette Midler as a self-destructive rock star who struggles to deal with the constant pressures of her career and the demands of those around her.

The site says that the remake will pay homage to the original, but also take on a contemporary angel on the high price of fame.

Searchlight Pictures are currently looking to attach a writer to the project. Director of development Richard Ruiz and creative executive Cornelia Burleigh will oversee the project for the studio.
