Lil Nas X is one of the industry’s most buzzed-about acts at the moment, and it’s all because of his controversial new music video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).”

According to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list, as of 2020, he was already worth $14 million, which does not include his most recent release, as well as his highly controversial shoe collaboration, the “Satan Shoes,” which sold out instantly and prompted a lawsuit from Nike.

He also just splashed out over $2 million for a home in Sherman Oaks, Calif. days ago, and he revealed some shots from inside on his social media.

If you missed it, an artist who Lil Nas X was accused of ripping off spoke out about the controversy. Here’s what happened!

“i want to show love to @fkatwigs & @andrewthomashuang ! the ‘cellophane’ visual is a masterpiece. i was not aware that the visual would serve as a major inspiration for those who worked on the effects of my video,” he said on Instagram on Tuesday (March 30).

Lil Nas X's Satan Shoes Prompt a Lawsuit from Nike - Find Out Why

Lil Nas X‘s Satan shoes have already cause some controversy on social media and now a lawsuit has been filed over them.

The shoes were created in collaboration with MSCHF and they were made using the Nike Air Max ’97. The most controversial feature of the shoes is the drop of human blood that is part of them.

666 pairs of the shoes were created and they were listed for $1,018. All of the shoes sold out in less than a minute.

Nike has filed a lawsuit against MSCHF as the company does not endorse the sneakers.

Nike files this lawsuit to maintain control of its brand, to protect its intellectual property, and to clear the confusion and dilution in the marketplace by setting the record straight — Nike has not and does not approve or authorize MSCHF’s customized Satan Shoes,” the lawsuit reads (via Variety).

Lil Nas X trolled the haters of the shoes with a funny “apology video” over the weekend.

Lil Nas X Trolls With Funny 'Apology Video' for Controversial Satan Shoes Containing Human Blood

Lil Nas X is trolling again.

The 21-year-old “Montero” superstar shared a video of himself “apologizing” for his controversial new shoewear collab, the “Satan shoes,” on Sunday (March 28).

The pair of shoes, crafted from the Nike Air Max ’97, was created in collaboration with the MSCHF, and reportedly features a pentagram pendant, “Luke 10:18″ on the side, and contains 60cc ink and one drop of human blood. There will be 666 pairs, and will go for over $1,000 dollars a pair on Monday (March 29), according to Saint.

“Okay guys, I see everybody’s been talking about this shoe, and I just want to come forward and say,” he started, before the clip abruptly cut to his lap dancing scene from “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).”

FKA Twigs' 'Cellophane' Director Addresses Lil Nas X 'Montero' Video Rip-Off Accusations

When Lil Nas X released the music video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” on Friday (March 26), some fans felt that the clip strongly resembled FKA twigs’ “Cellophane,” particularly the pole dance scenes.

And now, the “Cellophane” director Andrew Thomas Huang is speaking out.

The visual artist and film director addressed the conversations on social media in a statement on Sunday (March 28).

“I’m a fan of @LilNasX. ‘Old Town Road’ is iconic. Sharing collaborators is common. Seeing the ‘Cellophane’ choreographer collab with Lil Nas X is awesome (love a Satan dance). Sharing aesthetics and paying homage is part of the creative process,” he wrote.

“Collective consciousness exists. Images are also expensive to make. Years of work went into the creation of ‘Cellophane,’ from physical training to the emotional labor of unpacking Twigs’ life to construct images told her story of trauma and recovery. ‘Cellophane’ was a confession in the most vulnerable sense,” he continued.

“When an artist is in a position of power (amplified with the help of major record labels, social media, PR, etc) and repurposes someone’s labor and ideas to serve their brand image, they cause harm by displacing the efforts of the artists who did the original leg work. Intentional or not, copying other artists’ work happens. Making music videos is a labor of love. The demand for content pushed by major labels renders our work disposable and pits artists against each other. I urge the music community, particularly major record labels like @ColumbiaRecords to respect directors, uphold artistic accountability and honor the ingenuity of artists dedicating their blood sweat and tears to imagine better futures amidst a broken industry. We can do better.”

Lil Nas X Releases New Single 'Montero (Call Me By Your Name)' & Shares Meaning Behind the Song's Title

Lil Nas X has finally released his highly anticipated new song!

After nearly a year of teasing, the 21-year-old rapper dropped “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” AND the very queer-themed music video to go along with it.

The video follows Lil Nas X portraying Eve (aka Adam and Eve) as he makes out with a snake, pole dances, and gives Satan a lap dance before seducing him.

Along with the single’s release, Lil Nas X revealed the meaning behind the title, “Montero,” while writing a letter to his 14-year-old self.

“Dear 14-year-old Montero, I wrote a song with our name in it. It’s about a guy I met last summer,” Lil Nas X wrote on Twitter. “I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be ‘that’ type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist.”

“You see this is very scary for me, people will be angry, they will say I’m pushing an agenda,” he continued. “But the truth is, I am. The agenda to make people stay the f–k out of other people’s lives and stop dictating who they should be. Sending you love from the future.”

If you missed it, Lil Nas X recently celebrated a major milestone.
