Kevin Bacon Was Initially Offended with '6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon' Game

Kevin Bacon is revealing his initial reaction the “6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon” game.

The 61-year-old actor revealed on Alex Rodriguez‘s podcast The Corp that he was at first offended by the game that assumed anyone involved in the Hollywood film industry can be linked through their film roles to him in six steps.

“‘They’re making fun of me.’ I’m an actor,” Kevin said he initially thought. “I thought the joke was, ‘Can you believe that such a lightweight could be connected to Laurence Olivier or Meryl Streep or whatever in six steps or less?’”

“That’s how that’s just the actor’s insecurity,” Kevin continued. “That’s how I felt.”

Back in 2012, Kevin said during his TEDxMidwest talk that he was “horrified” when the game first became popular.

“In 1994, I’m minding my own business, I’m making movies and raising my family,” Kevin said. “People would come up to me like, ‘My cousin came up with a game about you.’”

Kevin continued, “I was absolutely horrified. I know its a cliche, but actors, behind all the muscles and shining white teeth and low-cut dresses, it really is just masking a lot of deep, deep insecurity. I thought, ‘I’m going to be a laughingstock.’”

However, Kevin didn’t take the game to heart for too long. In 2007, he launched the charity Six Degrees, which encourages people to donate or raise money for any charity within the United States.

“If you take me out of the six degrees idea it really is a beautiful concept because we really are all connected,” Kevin said. “The things that we do here now, in our block, affect people on the other side of the world and they affect people on the other side of town.”

Kevin Bacon shares a laugh with Stephen Colbert during an interview on The Late Show on Thursday night (June 13) in New York City.

The 60-year-old actor opened up about his new Showtime series City on a Hill and working with his wife Kyra Sedgwick, who directed some of it.

“We’re very affectionate people, you know, and we had a very serious sexual harassment meeting at the beginning of our season and I think in this day and age people, in general, are trying to be less handsy,” Kevin Bacon said about working in the #MeToo era.

Kevin said that he likes to be affectionate with his wife, but one day on set, Kyra asked him to stop.
