Zoe Saldana is regretting her role playing Nina Simone in the 2016 biopic, Nina.

During an Instagram Live with hosted by B-ESE, the 42-year-old actress opened up about what went into her playing the role and why she regrets it now..

“I should have never played Nina,” Zoe shared, while revealing that she wore a prosthetic nose, fake teeth, and makeup to darken her skin. “I should have done everything in my power, with the leverage that I had 10 years ago — which was a different [amount of] leverage, but it was leverage nonetheless. I should’ve tried everything in my power to cast a Black woman to play an exceptionally perfect Black woman.”

She continued that when she took over the role, she “thought back then that I had the permission because I was a Black woman, and I am. But it was Nina Simone, and Nina had a life and she had a journey that should’ve been and should be honored to the most specific detail because she was a specifically detailed individual about her voice, her opinions, her views, her music, and her art. And she was so honest. She deserved better.”

At the time, there was controversy over Zoe playing the role.

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry because I love her music,” Zoe shared in an apology to Nina’s family and fans. “It wasn’t enough. With that said, she’s one of our giants and someone else should step-up. Somebody else should tell her story.”

The 41-year-old Guardians of the Galaxy actress took to Instagram on Wednesday afternoon (April 1) to share a video of husband Marco Perego trying to mediate a fight between their 5-year-old twin sons Cy and Bowie.

In the vid, Cy and Bowie appear to be fighting over a ball and Marco jumps in to tell them to knock it off. Within a matter of seconds, the twins are hugging and burst out giggling.

Also making an appearance in the video is Zoe and Marco‘s youngest son Zen, 3.

“This reminds me of that @theellenshow episode with #willfarrell where he talks about parenting boys,” Zoe captioned the post. “It’s fun as hell, at all times- every waking minute of your day is spent trying to talk someone from beating someone else, or burning the house down, or flashing a neighbor, or smelling someone else’s butt. I swear I’m not feeling sorry for my husband and I, it’s just that being stuck at home with these cubs makes me appreciate work! #help #twins #boys”

Zoe Saldana is taking on a new role.

The Avengers: Endgame actress will star in the upcoming Jasmine McGlade-directed drama Fencer, Deadline confirmed on Thursday (February 13).

Here’s a plot summary: “Set in the competitive world of fencing, Saldana is attached to play Mae, an ambitious female athlete facing personal demons and childhood rivals as she vies for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. The film is inspired by McGlade’s own experiences as a national champion fencer. McGlade capped her tenure at Harvard by leading her team to the school’s first-ever NCAA Championship title.”

Casey Affleck is producing with Whitaker Lader.

“We feel so lucky to be a part of Fencer, which is an unflinchingly honest look at an ambitious, complex woman whose relationships and motivations defy simple categorization. The powerful script forces us to ask ourselves some of life’s most fundamental questions: ‘What defines you? Is it your work, reputation, relationships? What matters most to you and what will you do to protect that?’ We immediately fell in love with Jasmine’s unique story and perspective, and since partnering have been blown away by her intelligence, creativity, and tireless work ethic,” Casey and Whitaker said in a statement.

Zoe Saldana keeps getting tagged in a NSFW photo that shows a woman completely unclothed while lounging next to a couch… and she wants this to stop.

The 41-year-old Avatar actress is not the woman seen in the photo and she says she’ll never pose for photos like this.

“Whoever the f—k you are, stop posting this false picture of me. I have never, nor will I ever have pictures like these taken of my body or myself. This is not a real picture for anyone reading this. This is violating, offensive and insulting for women,” Zoe wrote on Instagram.

She added, “I will report you immediately, let it be known I am no victim and I do not suffer in silence. I defend myself and defend all women that cannot speak for themselves. You will not hide like a coward on this platform and think you can get away with it.”
