Paul McCartney Reveals The Beatles Refused to Play for Segregated Audience in 1964

Paul McCartney is reflecting on the importance of coming together to create change.

The 77-year-old music legend took to his Twitter to share a statement regarding the worldwide protests and public outcry for justice following the death of George Floyd.

“As we continue to see the protests and demonstrations across the world, I know many of us want to know just what we can be doing to help. None of us have all the answers and there is no quick fix but we need change,” Paul wrote. “We all need to work together to overcome racism in any form. We need to learn more, listen more, talk more, educate ourselves and, above all, take action.”

Paul went on to reveal that back in 1964, The Beatles refused to play a show in the United States for a segregated audience.

“In 1964 The Beatles were due to play Jacksonville in the US and we found out that it was going to be to a segregated audience,” Paul wrote. “It felt wrong. We said ‘We’re not doing that!’ and the concert we did do was to their first non-segregated audience. We then made sure this was in our contract. To us it seemed like common sense.”

Paul added, “I feel sick and angry that here we are almost 60 years later and the world is in shock at the horrific scenes of the senseless murder of George Floyd at the hands of police racism, along with the countless others that came before.”

“All of us here support and stand alongside all those who are protesting and raising their voices at this time. I want justice for George Floyd’s family, I want justice for all those who have died and suffered,” Paul concluded. “Saying nothing is not an option.”

Alicia Silverstone Recreates Paul McCartney's PETA Ad With Her Adorable Son Bear

Alicia Silverstone and her 8-year-old son, Bear, recreated the iconic PETA ad starring Paul Cartney and his late wife Linda for a new campaign that declares: “STOP Eating Animals. GO Vegan.”

The campaign, which features “Stop” and “Go” t-shirts, urges everyone cutting meat, eggs, fish, and dairy from their diets in an attempt to boost their immune system.

“The meat trade’s threat to our health can be halted,” said the Beatles icon, whose original ad is almost 30 years old. “And there are hopeful signs that people are starting to realize that this must be done to secure a brighter future for our children and theirs.”

Alicia added, “I’ve been lucky to be an activist alongside [Paul] for the last 25 years, and he’s just an incredible man and an incredible heart. I’m so sad I didn’t get to meet his beautiful wife, Linda. But doing anything in his honor is extraordinary.”

Paul McCartney & Netflix to Release 'High in the Clouds' Animated Film!

Paul McCartney is bringing his children’s book to Netflix!

The Beatles icon will produce and contribute songs to a feature-length adaptation of his 2005 book High in the Clouds, THR reported on Tuesday (December 10).

The original story follows “an imaginative teenage squirrel named Wirral who finds himself pulled into a ramshackle gang of teenage rebels who live high in the clouds after he accidentally antagonizes Gretsch the owl, the tyrannical leader (and fabulous singer!), who steals the voice of anyone who upstages her.”

The feature will be directed by Timothy Reckart.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Netflix. They complement what is already an amazing team with Gaumont and we can think of no one better to be working with to bring our film to a global audience. I’ve always loved animated films and this is a hugely important passion project for me. I can’t wait for the world to see it,” said Paul in a statement.
