Naomi Osaka poses for a photo with the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup after winning the Women’s Singles Final match during the 2019 Australian Open on Saturday (January 26) at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia.
The 21-year-old Japanese tennis player defeated Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova in the finals to win her second Grand Slam tournament in a row.
Naomi defeated Serena Williams at the U.S. Open last year. She is now ranked number one in the world!
“I had dreams that I would win this tournament,” Naomi said during a press conference (via ESPN). “Every time I have a dream, somehow I accomplish it. Still, I feel like it’s a very strange moment, like it’s not necessarily real.”
Naomi is also the first woman to win back-to-back grand slam tournaments since Serena did it back in 2015!
