Kate Winslet Reveals What She Wishes She Had on Set During Sex Scenes

Kate Winslet is getting candid about on-set experiences.

The 45-year-old Titanic actress spoke out in an interview with Samira Ahmed during a live edition of the How I Found My Voice podcast, and revealed that she would have felt a lot more comfortable filming sex scenes if there were intimacy coordinators on set.

“I definitely wish I had them in the past, I definitely do. I just could have done with that friend really. Just having a friend to say, ‘Can you ask him just to not put his hands there?’ So it’s not you having to say, which can be pretty awkward,” she admitted.

She also said she actually decided to act as an intimacy coordinator for her younger co-star Angourie Rice on the set of their upcoming HBO miniseries Mare of Easttown.

“Because there were no clothes that come off in the scene they didn’t consider bringing in an intimacy coordinator. And I just got the sense that she was nervous. So I said to her, ‘I’m going to be around for this, I’m going to stay, I won’t leave the set.’ She said: ‘Thank God Kate, thank you so much.’

“And I ended up being in the car. I ended up being in the boot of the car. I knew it would make them feel better to have that one person who would be able to put their hand up and say: ‘Actually we need to cut now, is everyone feeling OK?”

She recently recalled feeling bullied after her Titanic debut.

Kate Winslet Recalls Being Bullied Following Her 'Titanic' Debut

Kate Winslet has looked back on the time, shortly after Titanic premiered and recalled it not being such a magical time.

The 45-year-old Oscar winner shared that in the afterglow of the iconic film’s debut, she was bullied because of it.

“It was like night and day from one day to the next,” Kate shared about the almost immediate change from not being anyone to suddenly being someone during her interview with Marc Maron on his podcast.

She adds, “Also, I was subject to quite a lot of also personal physical scrutiny, and criticized quite a lot — the British press were actually quite unkind to me.”

“I felt quite bullied, if I’m honest,” Kate says. “I remember just thinking, ‘Okay, well, this is horrible and I hope it passes.’ And it did definitely pass but it also made me realize that if that’s what being famous was, I was not ready to be famous, thank you. No, definitely not.”

Kate continued and said at the time that Titanic came out in 1997 she was “still learning how to act” and “I still felt like I wasn’t really ready to do lots of big Hollywood jobs.”

“It was a huge responsibility. I didn’t want to make mistakes, I didn’t want to blow it — I wanted to be in it for the long game,” she shared.

Just recently it was revealed this other actress was offered the role of Kate‘s Rose.

Kate Winslet Reacts To Breaking Tom Cruise's Underwater Filming Record

Kate Winslet broke a huge record earlier this month.

While filming for Avatar 2, it was revealed that the 45-year-old actress held her breath for a record seven minutes and 14 seconds underwater.

This beats Tom Cruise‘s record of six minutes, which he did back in 2011 while filming Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation.

“It’s so funny because I don’t really read reviews or media things. I’m not on Instagram, like I’m just completely disconnected from that part of my life,” Kate revealed in a recent interview. “So all of this week and the week before, I’ve had people coming up to me at work saying, ‘Oh my God, like seven minutes and 14 seconds? Like, what?!’ And I’m going, ‘What? Hang on, wait a minute. How do you know that?’”

She added that she is very proud of just how long she spent underwater for the movie.

“It was brilliant and I was very proud of myself and I’ll probably never be able to do it again,” Kate said. “That came at the end of four weeks worth of quite intense training and it was in the dive tank, it was in the training tank. But I loved it.”

She continued that the added skill is “one of the things I love about the job. We’re very, very lucky as actors that often we have to learn a whole new skill.”

“When I did SNL I was on the week after Ashlee Simpson. I was the next show after. Let me tell you, that studio was just a hotbed of anxiety,” she revealed.

“There’s this thing of the opening monologue and they kept saying to me, ‘Kate we’re so sorry, we just don’t have it yet, give us a moment,’” she explained.

“It gets to Friday when we have the dress rehearsal, no opening monologue. I’m literally sh—ing myself. [I said,] ‘Guys please just make something up, let me make something up, just tell me what I’m doing.’ They go, ‘Can you tap dance?’” she said, revealing she rehearsed a tap-dancing and singing routine in three hours before attending the dress rehearsal.

“And then we’re recording the show live,” she went on to say, laughing.

Kate Winslet recently explained she now regrets working with these two directors.

Kate Winslet Now Regrets Working with Woody Allen & Roman Polanski

Kate Winslet is opening up with how she feels about working with controversial directors Woody Allen and Roman Polanski, years after their movies were released.

The Oscar-winning actress starred in Allen‘s 2017 movie Wonder Wheel and in Polanski‘s 2011 movie Carnage. Both directors have been accused of sexual abuse.

Kate previously said that she had an “extraordinary working experience” with the directors, but now is expressing her regret.

“It’s like, what the f–k was I doing working with Woody Allen and Roman Polanski?” she said in a new interview with Vanity Fair.

“It’s unbelievable to me now how those men were held in such high regard, so widely in the film industry and for as long as they were,” she added. “It’s f–king disgraceful. And I have to take responsibility for the fact that I worked with them both. I can’t turn back the clock. I’m grappling with those regrets but what do we have if we aren’t able to just be f–king truthful about all of it?”

Kate says she’s speaking out now because “life is fucking short and I’d like to do my best when it comes to setting a decent example to younger women.”

Kate Winslet Says Her Movie 'Contagion' Prepared for COVID-19 Pandemic

Kate Winslet has been taking the coronavirus pandemic very seriously from the beginning.

The 44-year-old actress, who played an epidemiologist in 2011’s Contagion, said the movie made her hyper-aware of the current pandemic when the virus started spreading China and Europe. At the time, Kate was filming a new movie in Philadelphia.

“People thought I was crazy because I had been walking around wearing a mask for weeks, going into the grocery store and wiping everything down with isopropyl alcohol and wearing gloves,” Kate shared of the early days of the pandemic with THR. “Then all of a sudden March 13 came around, and people were like, ‘F–k, where do I get one of those masks?’”

Kate then opened up about two of her close friends, who have been directly impacted by the virus.

“One was in L.A. and was very lucky to get on a trial using convalescent plasma and did really, really well in the space of, like, 72 hours after the treatment,” Kate shared.

She continued: “And a dialect coach who lives in London has had it, was in hospital for 11 weeks, is out, and has had every lung test, blood test, blood pressure test, and is clear of everything but just cannot get better — is breathless, lethargic, still feels very unwell.”

Back in March, Kate teamed up with her Contagion co-stars for a PSA to keep fans educated during the pandemic.
