Justin Timberlake's Comments on Being an LGBTQ Ally Are Getting a Lot of Attention

Justin Timberlake‘s new movie Palmer is now streaming on Apple TV+ and one of the interviews he did to promote the film was with GLAAD.

The 39-year-old entertainer was joined by his young co-star Ryder Allen and the film’s writer Cheryl Guerriero for an interview with GLAAD’s head of talent, Anthony Ramos.

In Palmer, Justin plays an ex-convict who befriends a young boy who was abandoned by his mother and is bullied for playing with dolls and dressing up like a princess. He said that what what was “special about what Cheryl crafted, to begin with — and what we wanted to hold so dear and really try our best to not preach but be the most careful and respectful — is that this is an eight-year-old boy and he likes what he likes.”

Justin was asked during the interview about why it’s important for him to be an ally of the LGBTQ+ community.

“Thank you for saying that. I very much enjoy being an ally, and it’s a true honor anytime someone addresses me that way,” Justin said in response.

The comment is getting a lot of attention as many people do not associate Justin with the LGBTQ+ rights movement. He has been a vocal supporter in the past though and he was the recipient of GLSEN’s Inspiration Award in 2015. He also spoke up for marriage equality when it became the law in New York.

A tweet about the interview has sparked hundreds of replies from people who want the “receipts” for his activism.

Gay news website Pink News put up a headline that read, “Justin Timberlake declares himself an LGBT+ ally and to quote Oprah, we’ve never heard this from any gay person.”

Is Justin Timberlake's Huge Arm Tattoo For 'Palmer' Real? Get the Truth!

Justin Timberlake‘s big new arm tattoo for his movie Palmer is totally fake!

The singer/actor shared a new clip of himself getting the fake tattoo applied for his movie, debuting on AppleTV+ tomorrow.

“Getting a fake tattoo takes longer than you’d think. BTS #PALMER – coming out this Friday 🙌🏻,” Justin posted on his Instagram.

Here’s a synopsis of the movie: Former high-school football star Eddie Palmer (Timberlake) went from hometown hero to convicted felon, earning himself twelve years in a state penitentiary. He returns home to Louisiana, where he moves back in with Vivian (June Squibb), the grandmother who raised him. While trying to keep his head down and rebuild a quiet life for himself, Palmer is haunted by memories of his glory days and the suspicious eyes of his small town community. Things become more complicated when Vivian’s hard-living neighbor Shelly (Juno Temple) disappears on a prolonged bender, leaving her precocious and unique 7-year-old son Sam (Ryder Allen), often the target of bullying, in Palmer’s reluctant care. In time, Palmer is drawn into a more hopeful world as he forges a connection with Sam through their shared experience of being made to feel different by those around them. Life improves for Palmer, and a romance develops between him and Sam’s teacher Maggie (Alisha Wainwright). An inspiring and unexpected journey unfolds for the three of them, but soon Palmer’s past threatens to tear apart this new life.

Justin Timberlake Is Worried About How His Fame Will Affect His Kids

Justin Timberlake is opening up about his kids and his fears of how they will be affected by his fame.

The 39-year-old actor was a guest on Dax Shepard‘s podcast Armchair Expert and he talked about being a dad to his two kids with Jessica Biel. They couple are parents to sons Silas, 5, and Phineas, who is almost one.

Justin said, “I try to be conscious of making sure we can live a life where we’re not weirdly private but we’re conscious of making sure they can be kids for as long as possible. And not have the weight of somebody else treating them differently because of something that their parents do.”

Justin and Dax both agreed that they’re worried it will be difficult for the kids to make real friendships because of their fame.

“I have that great fear that kids are going to hang out with them solely because of that or resent them because of that,” Dax said.

Dax‘s wife Kristen Bell is the voice of Anna in Frozen and Justin is the voice of Branch in the Trolls movies. They both said they tell their kids to not reveal this detail to other kids.

“I know you’re proud and you should be able to say that, but I’m just warning you, that’ll probably make other kids jealous and they won’t know how to handle that feeling,” Dax said.

Justin added, “Yeah, we have this same thing where, like, the kids at school with my five-year-old are like, ‘Your dad is Branch.’ For guys like us, you know, the hope is that we just keep instilling in them that we got really fun jobs, but it’s not who we are.”
