The first Harry Potter movie was released in theaters in 2001 and in the years that followed, the beloved franchise saw so many stars rise to fame with their performances.

Since filming of the movies ended in 2011, several actors and actresses have passed away. The ages of these stars range from the young age of 18 to 91. Two of the stars tragically passed away this month in April of 2021.

We’re taking a look back at some of the Harry Potter stars who have sadly died since filming. Our continued thoughts are with the family, friends, and loved ones of these late actors and actresses.

Jason Isaacs is the latest star to remember Helen McCrory.

Helen passed away this week at the age of 52 following a battle with cancer and her husband, Billions actor Damian Lewis, wrote a touching farewell to her.

In the Harry Potter franchise, Helen played Narcissa Malfoy, the wife of Jason‘s character Lucius Malfoy.

Jason took to his Instagram on Saturday (April 17) to remember Helen, calling her “the greatest actress I’ve ever seen.”

Tom Felton is paying tribute to the late Helen McCrory, who played his character Draco Malfoy’s mother in the Harry Potter franchise.

Helen passed away this week at the age of 52 following a battle with cancer and her husband, Billions actor Damian Lewis, wrote a touching farewell to her.

Tom took to Instagram on Saturday (April 17) to share an emotional note in which he revealed the things he wished he told Helen before she passed away.

Rupert Grint is opening up about his time in the Harry Potter franchise and admitted that he does have some regrets.

The 32-year-old actor and new dad spoke with Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast and revealed that there was an awkward stage he went through while filming the eight movies.

“There were some awkward stages, for sure. My hair in film four is one of my biggest regrets. Shoulder length,” he joked, adding that “I think everyone actually had a phase of having this really long hair.”

He says about the fan reaction to the length: “They liked it – it was kind of wizardy. We went through our puberty on camera. You kind of see it all. It is very cringey.”

Later on in the same interview, Rupert did say that there was also “a time where it felt quite suffocating, because it was heavy going, because it was every day for 10 years in the end.”

“It just never ended,” he shared. “Every year, we came back. And it was kind of like Groundhog Day because it was the same sets. Sometimes it definitely felt like, ‘I want to do something else. See what else is out there’.”

Overall though, “It was a great experience. Such a nice kind of family atmosphere. It was always the same crew we kind of grew up with, so it was a great place to be.”

Earlier this week, Katie Leung, who played Cho, revealed the racism she faced while starring in the franchise.

Katie Leung is reliving the dark side of Harry Potter fame.

In a new interview on the Chinese Chippy Girl podcast, the 33-year-old actress, who played Cho Chang in the movies, said that she suffered racist bullying as soon as news of her casting was leaked online.

“It had got to the papers and then someone secretly took a photo of me,” Katie recalled. “I just broke down. I just started crying.”

After the photo was leaked, Katie, who was still a teenager at the time, said that she started receiving a lot of hate and negative messages online.

“I was like, Googling myself at one point and I was on this website, which was kind of dedicated to the Harry Potter fandom, and I remember reading all the comments,” Katie shared. “It was a lot of racist s–t.”

“And then somebody had actually created a website, a hate site — it was like, if you disagree with this casting, then click on this button and then it would just be like a count of how many people disagreed with the casting and you would just see a number,” Katie continued. “I know, it’s awful. It’s so awful.”

Katie said that she approached a publicist in regards to the racist bullying, but she was told not to talk about it in the press.

“I remember them saying to me, ‘Oh look, Katie, we haven’t seen these websites that people are talking about. And if you get asked, then just say it’s not true. Say it’s not happening,’” Katie recalled.

“And I just nodded my head. I was like, ‘Okay, Okay,’ even though I had seen it myself with my own eyes,” Katie said. “I was like, ‘Okay, yeah, I’ll just say everything’s great.’”

Looking back, Katie admits that she wished she spoke out about the situation, but still has fond memories about working on the Harry Potter movies.

“Of course, I was grateful. I was really very f–king grateful that I was in the position I was in,” Katie said of her role. “But then, yeah … it wasn’t great.”

Daniel Radcliffe is taking a look back at his performances in Harry Potter!

The 31-year-old actor reflected on his early acting experience in a new interview with Elijah Wood for Empire Magazine.

“I’m intensely embarrassed by some of my acting, obviously,” Daniel said. “But yeah, it’s like asking, ‘How do you feel about your teenage years?’ There’s so much in there that it’s almost impossible to single out one feeling.”

“It’s hard to separate my relationship with Harry from my relationship with the films as a whole,” he continued.

Daniel added, “I’m incredibly grateful for the experience. It showed me what I want to do with the rest of my life. To find out early on what you love is really lucky.”

Daniel recently joined Sean Evans for an episode of Hot Ones and revealed why he broke so many wands during his time on set!

There were a handful of now recognizable faces that appeared in the Harry Potter films over the years, like Julianne Hough and Rege-Jean Page.

However, Tom Felton, who starred as Draco Malfoy in the popular film franchise, has revealed the biggest cameo of all – his own grandfather!

The 33-year-old actor has been live streaming with his fans while re-watching some of the films and unveiled that his grandfather actually appears in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as one of the elders watching a Quidditch match.

“That’s my grandpa again! The guy with the beard,” Tom says as the camera passes over his grandpa, Nigel Anstey. “White beard! Huge beard right next to Lee Jordan. And there’s me again.”

Lee Jordan is the game’s announcer, and was played by Luke Youngblood in the flick.

Tom added, “It’s a family thing, mental! Mental!”

Nigel, who is a famed British geophysicist, also appears in The Great Hall scene, sitting next to the first Dumbledore, Richard Harris.
