'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' Production on Hold Following James Gunn Firing

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been temporarily put on hold, according to THR.

The upcoming flick was set to begin pre-production but things have come to a halt as Marvel and Disney regroup on the project.

Crew members who had begun assembling to prep for pre-production were reportedly dismissed and were told that they are free to look for new work.

The film has been in limbo since director James Gunn was fired from the film for past offensive tweets.

Despite the controversy surrounding James, cast members including Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana supported his re-hiring.

The film was supposed to begin principal photography in either in January or February.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' Cast Support James Gunn, Want Him Reinstated as Director

The Guardians of the Galaxy cast – Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, and Pom Klementieff – have come together to support the re-hiring of James Gunn after being fired over past tweets.

Zoe tweeted out the letter with the tweet, “If you please, read the statement written and signed by The Guardians of the Galaxy cast in support of James Gunn’s reinstatement as director of GOTG Volume 3.”

The letter begins, “We fully support James Gunn. We were all shocked by his abrupt firing last week and have intentionally waited these ten days to respond in order to think, pray, listen, and discuss. In that time, we’ve been encouraged by the outpouring of support from fans and members of the media who wish to see James reinstated as director of Volume 3 as well as discouraged by those so easily duped into believing the many outlandish conspiracy theories surrounding him.”

“We are not here to defend his jokes of many years ago but rather to share our experience having spent many years together on set making Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2. The character he has shown in the wake of his firing is consistent with the man he was every day on set, and his apology, now and from years ago when first addressing these remarks, we believe is from the heart, a heart we all know, trust, and love,” the letter continues.

Finally, “There is little due process in the court of public opinion. James is likely not the last good person to be put on trial. Given the growing political divide in this country, it’s safe to say instances like this will continue, although we hope Americans from across the political spectrum can ease up on the character assassinations and stop weaponizing mob mentality.”

Chris Pratt & Zoe Saldana React to James Gunn's Firing from 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana have both spoken out on Twitter following the firing of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.

Gunn was removed from the third film in the Marvel franchise after right-wing activists dug up some controversial tweets that the director wrote many years ago.

“It’s been a challenging weekend I’m not gonna lie. I’m pausing myself to take everything in before I speak out of term. I just want everyone to know I love ALL members of my GOTG family. Always will,” Zoe wrote.

Chris didn’t directly reference the controversy, but he tweeted out a bible verse from the book of James that deals with the issue.

“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters. Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger,” he posted.

Their co-star Dave Bautista has already spoken out to support Gunn and a petition was started to reinstate him as the director of Guardians 3.

Dave Bautista Speaks Out with Support for James Gunn

Dave Bautista is speaking out to show support for James Gunn, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies who was fired for insensitive tweets he wrote years ago.

The 49-year-old actor plays the role of Drax in the Marvel movies.

“I will have more to say but for right now all I will say is this.. @JamesGunn is one of the most loving, caring, good natured people I have ever met. He’s gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals. He’s made mistakes. We all have. Im NOT ok with what’s happening to him,” Dave wrote on Twitter.

Some of the subjects allegedly discussed in James‘ old tweets include pedophilia and rape.

Director James Gunn Fired From 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3' After Offensive Tweets Surface

James Gunn has reportedly been removed as director from Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

According to THR, the 51-year-old director’s old tweets focused on “controversial topics such as pedophelia and rape.”

“The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him,” Alan Horn, the studio’s chairman, confirmed in a statement to Just Jared.

Before completely deleting his Twitter account, Gunn tweeted, “Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo. As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor.”

Gunn wrote and directed the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, starring Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, and more.

The video for “Inferno” features cheesy special effects and looks like something that came out of the early 80s.

Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Pom Klementieff, Michael Rooker, and even Stan Lee are all in the video as well.

Hasselhoff makes a cameo in the Marvel sequel as Chris‘ character Peter Quill always imagined that the entertainer was his long-lost father.
