There’s a Grease prequel in the works!

The film is currently titled Summer Loving and has tapped veteran screenwriter John August to tackle the script, THR reports.

The 1978 film became an instant classic and starred John Travolta as Danny Zuko and Olivia Newton-John as Sandy Olsson.

The prequel’s plot is set to center around Danny and Sandy’s first meeting, which is detailed in the Grease song “Summer Nights.” No further details have been released at this time.

Aaron Tveit and the T-Birds break out in “Grease Lightning” in this behind-the-scenes pic from Grease: Live rehearsals, ahead of Sunday’s (January 31) premiere on Fox.

The entire cast — including Vanessa Hudgens, Kether Donohue, Keke Palmer, Carly Rae Jepsen, Julianne Hough, Carlos PenaVega, David Del Rio, Andrew Call, and Jordan Fisher — showed off their moves during a dress rehearsal.

Julianne Hough, Vanessa Hudgens, and Carly Rae Jepsen are denim babes on the brand new cover of Billboard magazine.

Here’s what Grease: Live‘s Pink Ladies had to share with the mag:

Carly on working with her cast mates: “With the girls, it’s really easy. You’re braiding each other’s hair, grabbing each other’s asses. We’re just girlfriends in that way, like the Pink Ladies.”

Vanessa on the pressure of a live show: “The live aspect doesn’t freak me out. It’s a bit nerve-wracking.”

Director Tommy Kail on changing some of the racist and homophobic lines from the original: “We can move past some of those [politically incorrect] things and still have the integrity of the story.”

Vanessa Hudgens and Julianne Hough are the first names to be cast for Fox’s upcoming Grease!

Julianne, 26, will play Sandy, played by Olivia Newton-John in the movie and Vanessa, also 26, will take on the role of Rizzo, played by Stockard Channing.

“Grease is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy,” Julianne shared in a statement. “My siblings and I watched it and played it out over and over when we were kids. This is my dream role and performing it live on television will be one of the most thrilling opportunities I’ve had in my career so far.”

Vanessa added, “Being Rizzo is something I’ve never imagined, and I love that because it will be a new challenge. She is such an iconic character that continues to transcend generations. I cannot wait to bring her to life on live television. I’m going to be a Pink Lady!”

Grease is expected to premiere @7PM ET/PT on Sunday, January 31, 2016.

Fox Networks has just added a live version of the hit musical Grease to it’s 2015 calender!

The network has allotted three-hours for the big hit musical in the schedule!

“From Broadway to film, and across generations, ‘Grease’ is one of the most beloved musical stories ever told – and we can’t wait to bring it to our air in a spectacular live event,” Shana C. Waterman, Senior Vice President of Event Series for Fox, said. “Its iconic characters and addictive songs make it the perfect fit for FOX, and we’re going to give it the kind of star power and production quality to make every Sandy, Danny, Rizzo and Kenickie out there want to get up and sing along.”

The musical was made famous in the 70s with the movie version starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.
