Jameela Jamil Defends Demi Lovato, Slams Diet Culture & 'Guilt Free' Terminology

Jameela Jamil is speaking out to defend her friend Demi Lovato amid the controversy over her comments about a beloved frozen yogurt shop in Los Angeles.

The 28-year-old singer called out the business for putting diet offerings on display for customers before they reached the counter. She later apologized for handling the situation the way she did and offered to work with the shop to change the labels.

Jameela put up an Instagram Story with a long statement in which she defended Demi‘s comments and slammed “guilt free” labels on food.

Demi Lovato Apologizes for How She Handled Frozen Yogurt Situation (Video)

Demi Lovato is speaking out with an apology for the way she handled the whole situation with the frozen yogurt shop The Bigg Chill.

For those that haven’t been following along, Demi called out the local Los Angeles business over the weekend for putting sugar-free cookies and other diet foods on display.

Demi even sent DMs to the company, which she shared on her Instagram Stories. She later fired back at the media and said it’s time to stop “gaslighting women who stand up for themselves.”

Now, Demi admits she could’ve handled the situation better.

Demi Lovato Fires Back Amid Backlash Over Bigg Chill Controversy

Demi Lovato is facing a bit of backlash from The Bigg Chill frozen yogurt shop amid the controversy this weekend.

If you missed the story this weekend, here’s what happened. Over the weekend, Demi posted the following: “Finding it extremely hard to order froyo from @thebiggchillofficial when you have to walk past tons of sugar free cookies/other diet foods before you get to the counter. Do better please. #DietCultureVultures”

The experience prompted Demi to turn the hashtag she started, #DietCultureVultures, into a movement and to put companies on blast for promoting diet menus over everything else. The company actually responded, and you can read it right here.

Demi Lovato Calls Out LA Bakery For Promoting Sugar-Free Foods Before Everything Else: 'Do Better Please'

Demi Lovato has called out The Bigg Chill frozen yogurt shop and isn’t holding back on her less than favorable service from them.

In the incident that happened over the weekend, the 28-year-old musician called out the shop after she felt they were pushing a “diet” menu, which featured sugar-free cookies, and she saw them as helping to promote a problematic diet culture.

“Finding it extremely hard to order froyo from [The Bigg Chill] when you have to walk past tons of sugar-free cookies/other diet foods before you get to the counter,” Demi shared her frustrations on her Instagram Stories. “Do better please.”

Demi Lovato Makes Her Tiny Desk Debut With a Performance in Her Own Backyard

Demi Lovato is making her big Tiny debut!

The 28-year-old “Tell Me You Love Me” global superstar made her first appearance on NPR Tiny Desk (At Home) on Wednesday (April 14), performing a three song set shot entirely in her own backyard.

The performance included a rendition of her 2017 hit “Tell Me You Love Me,” as well as two songs from her new album Dancing With the Devil…The Art of Starting Over: “The Art of Starting Over” and “Dancing With the Devil.”

“I am super excited to be filming this outside because I’m really, really excited about the weather changing. Spring is my second favorite, and summer is my absolute favorite season. So, I’m really happy to be out in the bright sunny California sun, and my squirrels are out here,” she said.

Demi was joined by Steven “Styles” Rodriguez on the keys for the shoot, which was directed by Mike Drew.

Demi‘s Tiny Desk Concert was filmed right outside of her home studio, with her trophies and awards in the background. She showed them off back in December when the room was finished.

Demi Lovato is returning to TV acting!

NBC announced a pilot order for a comedy starring and executive produced by the 28-year-old “Dancing With the Devil” singer called Hungry, Deadline reported.

The show is described as a single-camera comedy that follows “a group of friends who belong to a food issues group help each other as they look for love, success and the perfect thing in the fridge that’s going to make it all better.”

It is written and executive produced by Will & Grace writer and Hot In Cleveland creator Suzanne Martin.

In her latest acting turn, Demi most recently appeared in a guest starring role on the final season of Will & Grace. She also has a docu-series that just aired on YouTube, called Dancing With The Devil.

The 28-year-old performer discussed her new docu-series Dancing with the Devil and growing up in the spotlight on The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday (April 13).

Host Drew Barrymore asked if there was something freeing about being so emotionally vulnerable in her documentary, Demi replied, “I was trying something that didn’t work for me. Now I’m doing something that is working for me and instead of feeling judged by everyone I’m just going to say, ‘Look your opinion about me doesn’t matter to me. I’m doing what I need to do for myself and my wellness, my well-being.’”

“I’m putting myself first and in front of my career,” she continued. “And that’s something I never did before because I was so preoccupied trying to be a sexy feminine pop star that I just ignored like who I am.”
