Dax Shepard is bravely opening up about a relapse.

The 45-year-old actor admitted on his podcast Armchair Expert on Friday (September 25) that after having 16 years of sobriety, he relapsed with painkillers, and has been “on them all day” for the past eight weeks.

He spoke about his experience with sobriety over the years, including the painful period of time when his father was dying in 2012, and the more “gray area” part of his journey. He said it was his motorcycle accident in August that led to his full relapse.

He also thought he was managing the addiction, until his podcast co-host, Monica Padman, called him out on his altered behavior.

“And I start lying to you pretty regularly. And I hate it. And I am lying to other people. And I know I have to quit,” he said while recounting his experience.

“My tolerance is going up so quickly…I’m starting to feel really scared and really lonely, and I have this enormous secret,” he went on to say, adding that he started a schedule to detox from the addiction, but it was not going well.

“I’m gaslighting you and I know I am, I’m making Kristen feel crazy,” he continued.

The actor said he finally came clean to his wife Kristen Bell and his co-host at the same time at the gym a little more than a week ago, giving them the remaining medication and asking them for help.

The episode recorded on September 21 is titled “Day 7.”

“If you’ve got more than seven days, you’ve got more than me. And you’re my elder, and I look up to you. Onward and upward,” he said.

Dax Shepard is sporting a different look these days and it’s for the sweetest reason.

The 45-year-old actor showed off his new hairstyle on social media this week, revealing that he had shaved the right side of his head, so he could twin with one of his daughters, Lincoln, whom he shares with wife Kristen Bell.

“Thank you @sarabareilles forgiving my daughters an anthem. She requested a specific haircut a few days ago, and now I want to match her :),” Dax captioned his video on Instagram.

Sara Bareilles saw the post and replied, saying, “the best best best. Thank you for being a kick ass dad for strong young women! #handmemyhaircut.”

Later on, Kristen posted the same video, praising Dax‘s decision to match his daughter.

“I love this man so much. He wanted to twin with our daughter,” she wrote.

Previously, Kristen opened up about Lincoln‘s decision to shave her head in a 2019 interview.

In May 2019, Kristen shared that “she just woke up one morning and was like, ‘I need to shave this whole side right here.’ I was like, ‘I’ve never been, nor will I ever be, that cool to shave the side of my head.’ And she did it, and she rocks it and she loves it.”

Kristen Bell and her daughters are helping Dax Shepard celebrate a major milestone!

The 40-year-old actress took to Instagram on Tuesday (September 1) to share a handwritten by one of their daughters on the 45-year-old actor’s “sobriety birthday.”

“Today is my husband’s 16th sobriety birthday. My daughter woke him up with this sign, and a sketch of the one and only Ronald Weasley(absolutely random, and also perfect),” Kristen wrote. “Happy birthday Daxy. Thank you for dedicating your life to the hard and wonderful work of sobriety, so that we could share it with you. Xo K, L & D”

Dax officially got sober in September 2004. He started dating Kristen in 2007, and she has been a extremely proud of Dax‘s sobriety journey.

Dax Shepard is on the mend!

The 45-year-old Parenthood actor stepped out wearing an arm sling to check out a construction site on Tuesday afternoon (September 1) in Los Feliz, Calif.

Dax showed off his tattooed muscles in a sleeveless shirt as he spent the afternoon running a few errands.

A few weeks ago, Dax revealed that he was recently in a motorcycle accident, leaving him with “four broken ribs” and his clavicle was “broken in three places.”

Dax‘s wife Kristen Bell then gave fans an update on his condition after undergoing surgery, saying he was “safe and sound” while recovering at home.

Dax recently took to Instagram to share a selfie with Kristen as their dog Frank confusingly looks at them as they wear face masks.

“Frank is never sure which direction to look in during photo sessions,” Dax wrote. “Additionally, he doesn’t see the connection between looking like Jason from Halloween, and subtle skin. He’ll get there.”

Kristen Bell is opening up about how husband Dax Shepard is doing following his motorcycle accident.

If you didn’t see, Dax opened up about his accident earlier this week, showing off his injuries.

“I was passing six guys on Sonoma Raceway on a motorcycle and I was braking very, very hard — hard enough that the back wheel was off the ground for a good 100 yards,” Dax recalled of the accident that put him in this position. “I was totally at blame. I thought I would be able to slide in between, but someone turned in and I was already under full brake and I couldn’t go anywhere.”

He added that he “clipped their bumper, went over the handlebars and landed pretty hard” which led to his “four broken ribs, [and] the clavicle’s broken in three places.”

Just after his surgery, Kristen updated fans on his condition.

“Dad is safe and sound and recovering at home in his @lazboy (which he convinced me belongs back in the center of the room),” she captioned her Instagram selfie with Dax.

She added, “Thank you for all the week wishes and to the wonderful doctors and nurses who helped our family!”

Dax Shepard is pretty banged up after a motorcycle accident.

The 45-year-old actor revealed during his Armchair Expert podcast that he “needs surgery” after injuring himself while driving around a racetrack in California.

“I was passing six guys on Sonoma Raceway on a motorcycle and I was braking very, very hard — hard enough that the back wheel was off the ground for a good 100 yards,” Dax recalled. “I was totally at blame. I thought I would be able to slide in between, but someone turned in and I was already under full brake and I couldn’t go anywhere.”

“I clipped their bumper and I went over the handlebars,” Dax continued, “and I landed pretty hard.”

Dax said that despite getting “thoroughly yelled at” by track employees, he decided to ice his shoulder and hand for an hour and a half before returning for “two sessions” on the track.

However, the ride became “too painful by the end of it” and Dax decided to go to the emergency room the next day.

“I’ve been at the hospital for seven hours today,” Dax shared. “The final tally was four broken ribs, the clavicle’s broken in three places, and I need surgery.”

After posting the podcast episode, Dax took to Instagram to share a shirtless selfie while showing off some of his bruises.

“Thank you Armcherries for all the well wishes and concern. I’m in one piece and spirits are high :) Sorry for causing concern. ♥️🍒♥️🍒♥️” Dax captioned the photo, where fans can see his wife Kristen Bell in the background.

Back in May, Kristen explained how Dax had “crushed all the bones” in his hand.

Kristen Bell had quite the story during her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week.

The 40-year-old actress opened up about her eldest daughter, Lincoln, who asked a funny question as she and husband, Dax Shepard, were heading out for a walk around the neighborhood.

“My sister was here watching the kids. We masked up and we were like, ‘Oh, we’ll just walk down the street. There’s a great hike near our house.’ And on our way out the door, my 7-year-old stood in the door and she held it open. She goes, ‘Uh, are you going to do a sex?’” she shared.

Kristen and Dax were obviously caught by surprise at her question, and Dax had quite a good answer for her.

“We’ve talked to her about what sex is, but we’ve never talked about us doing it. Dax just really quickly said, ‘We’d love to, but it’s illegal publicly. Bye!’ and closed the door.”

Kristen continued, comparing Lincoln and her younger sister, Delta, to parakeets because they talk a lot.

“[It's] truly like having two crazy parakeets stapled to your shoulder all afternoon, where they’re just talking so much,” she shared.

The two girls are also keeping Kristen and Dax on their toes while stuck at home during the pandemic. One of their most recent activities include moving furniture.

“They’ve been making forts but they’ve been expanding into moving furniture,” she added. “So I will wake up at 8:30 and none of the furniture that was in the room previously will be in the room.”
