Funko to Celebrate Female Directors with Special Figurines!

Funko, the company that has created the beloved Funko Pop figurines to immortalize your favorite pop culture stars and characters, has created new figurines to celebrate female directors for the first time.

When They See Us director Ava DuVernay and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins are both getting their own Pop dolls.

Ava is sporting her signature black glasses and an “Array” shirt on her doll while Patty is wearing a white jumpsuit and a duster jacket.

“This is so awesome and flattering. Thanks @OriginalFunko!! Can’t wait!!” Patty tweeted in response to the news.

The on-sale date for the Funko Pop dolls has not yet been revealed.

Laura Dern, Sam Rockwell, & Ava DuVernay Receive Special Tribute Prizes at Gotham Awards 2019!

Sam Rockwell shows off his trophy in the press room at the 2019 IFP Gotham Independent Film Awards on Monday (December 2) at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

The 51-year-old Oscar-winning actor received a special Tribute Award at the event. Other recipients of Tribute Awards included Laura Dern and filmmaker Ava DuVernay, who posed for a photo together inside the event.

Laura was joined at the event by the directors of her two movies this season, Little Women‘s Greta Gerwig and Marriage Story‘s Noah Baumbach. The two directors just so happen to be partners in real life!

Noah won the award for Best Screenplay and Marriage Story took home the Audience Award.

Laura also posed with her kids Ellery and Jaya on the red carpet!

Ava DuVernay Says People in Hollywood Think She Directed 'Queen & Slim' and 'Harriet'

Ava DuVernay is fed up with being confused by people in Hollywood.

The 47-year-old A Wrinkle in Time director took to Twitter on Tuesday (November 26) to call out “non-black folks in Hollywood” who think she directed new movies Queen & Slim and Harriet.

“I’ve now been congratulated by non-black folks in Hollywood 11 different times about my direction of HARRIET and QUEEN AND SLIM. When I share that I didn’t direct those films, that they are made by black women directors who are not me? Nervous chuckles. Apologies. This place…” Ava tweeted.

If you didn’t know, Harriet is directed by Kasi Lemmons, while Melina Matsoukas directed Queen & Slim.

Charlize Theron Stuns in White While Being Honored at Glamour Women of the Year Awards

Charlize Theron looks stunning on the red carpet while attending the 2019 Glamour Women of the Year Awards on Monday (November 11) at Alice Tully Hall in New York City.

The Oscar-winning actress was joined at the event by the other honorees – director Ava DuVernay, Grown-ish actress Yara Shahidi, soccer player Megan Rapinoe, fashion designer Tory Burch, and “The Handmaid’s Tale” author Margaret Atwood.

The other women being honored this year are activist Greta Thunberg and the Women of the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES).

“Throughout this year at Glamour, we have celebrated women that are going big, whose influence we’ve felt reverberating beyond just a single moment. When we started to think about who to honor as our Women of the Year, we realized that these women are not just promoting one issue or one conversation, they are using their voices and platforms to have a lasting impact for generations to come,” Glamour editor-in-chief Samantha Barry said about the honorees. “This group of exceptional women are having the tough conversations that open doors, and forge new paths on issues ranging from equal pay to climate change. They’re inspiring cross generational people globally and we are proud to honor them as Women of the Year.”

Greg Berlanti & Ava DuVernay Are the Patron of the Artists Award Recipients This Year!

Greg Berlanti and Ava DuVernay were recipients of the top honor of the night at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s 2019 Patron of the Artists Awards on Thursday (November 7) at the Wallis Annenberg Center of the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, Calif.

They were both presented with the Patron of the Artists Award.

Greg, who is a television producer, showrunner, and director, received his award from legendary producer and writer Norman Lear.

Ava, who is an award-winning writer and director, received her award from actor David Oyelowo, who starred in her movie Selma.

Hank Azaria opened the event with a speech and there were musical performances from Harriet‘s Cynthia Erivo, This Is UsChrissy Metz, former The Voice contestant Wé McDonald, and Grmamy winner Patti Austin.

Chrissy, who stars in the movie Breakthrough, performed a song written for the film by Diane Warren, who joined her at the event.

'This Is Us' Stars Chrissy Metz & Susan Kelechi Watson Unite in the Name of Free Speech

Chrissy Metz and Susan Kelechi Watson enjoy a night out to celebrate free expression and the literary arts!

The This Is Us co-stars, ages 39 and 37, respectively, hit the red carpet at Pen America’s 2019 Litfest Gala held at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel on Friday (November 1) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Chrissy popped in pink, while Susan opted for a purple halter dress.

The event honored some of the brightest names in film, television, and literature.

When They See Us‘s Blair Underwood presented filmmaker Ava DuVernay with the Voice of Influence Award. She gave a powerful speech about being at the intersection of arts and activism, ending with an apropos quote from writer Audre Lorde.

Songwriter Diane Warren took home the Artistic Expression Award, receiving a musical tribute from Chrissy, who delivered an inspiring performance of their hit song, “I’m Standing With You.”

Susan presented A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood writers Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster with the Award for Screenplay Excellence.

Additionally, comedian Kathy Griffin and Ted Boutrous talked about taking on the current government and fighting with everything they have to support the rights of journalists and media organizations.

Regina King, Brie Larson, & Cynthia Erivo Arrive in Style for LACMA Gala 2019

The 48-year-old actress was joined at the event by fellow Oscar winner Brie Larson.
