Adrienne Warren belts out a song during a VIP preview event for the upcoming Broadway show Tina – The Tina Turner Musical on Wednesday (September 11) at L’Avenue at Saks’ Le Chalet in New York City.

The Tony-nominated actress was joined at the event by co-star Daniel J. Watts, who is playing the role of Ike Turner, as well as director Phyllida Lloyd, playwright Katori Hall, and producer Tali Pelman.

Adrienne, who is taking on the title role in the musical, performed an acoustic version of Tina‘s song “Private Dancer” for guests at the event.

Rehearsals for the musical began last week and preview performances kick off on October 12.

The 32-year-old actress, who was personally picked by Tina Turner to portray her in the musical, was joined by co-stars including Daniel J. Watts and Dawnn Lewis. They are currently in rehearsals!

Adrienne played the role of the music icon in the London production of the musical and she received an Olivier Award nomination for her work. She’s also a previous Tony nominee for her work in the Broadway show Shuffle Along.

Tina follows the life story of Tina Turner from her youth in Tennessee, through her relationship with Ike Turner, and then her comeback as a rock ‘n roll icon in her 40s.

Preview performances for Tina begin on October 12 at New York City’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The official opening night is on November 7 and tickets for the show are on sale now!

Tina – The Tina Turner Musical is heading to Broadway and Adrienne Warren will be playing the title role in the show!

The 31-year-old Tony-nominated actress is currently starring in the show in London’s West End through April 13 and she will reprise her role for New York audiences in the Fall.

“I’m so proud of everything that Adrienne has achieved over the last year in the West End,” Tina Turner herself said in a statement. “She has given it everything she’s got, she has poured her soul into it, and she deserves every success. I am thrilled she will be reprising her role in New York, and I cannot wait to see her on that Broadway stage on Opening Night.”

The theatre, dates and further casting for New York will be announced in the coming months.

Adrienne previously starred on Broadway in the musicals Bring It On and Shuffle Along.

Laura and Sophie were both nominated for Best Actress while Adrienne was up for Best Musical Performance for her work in Tina the Musical.
