Merritt Wever and Toni Collette brought Unbelievable to the 2020 Golden Globe Awards!

The co-stars hit the red carpet on Sunday evening (January 5) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

During the event, Unbelievable is up for several awards including Best Miniseries or TV Film. Merritt is also up for Best Actress in the category while Toni is up for Best Supporting Actress.

The Golden Globes will be hosted by actor and comedian Ricky Gervais this year, marking his fifth time as host. Make sure to tune in at 8pm ET/5pm PT on NBC.

FYI: Merrit is wearing a Cinq à Sept gown and blazer, Chloe Gosselin shoes, and State Property Jewelry. Toni is wearing an Erdem dress.

Ricky Gervais made a joke about the lack of female directors nominated at the 2020 Golden Globes – and it didn’t quite land.

The joke came as the host introduced the next category, Best Director, which made headlines for its complete lack of female nominees since they were first announced.

“A lot of controversy over our next category: no female directors were nominated this year. That’s bad,” he said.

“I’ve had a word with the HFPA and they have guaranteed this will never happen again. Working with all the major studios, [the HFPA has] agreed to go back to the way things were when they didn’t hire women directors. That will solve the problem. You’re welcome.”

There were virtually no laughs in the crowd.

“The lack of women-directors in the industry is no joke. ‘The top 100 films of 2019 were helmed by a total of 113 directors, 89.4 percent of whom were male and 10.6 percent of whom were female,’” Women in Hollywood’s Melissa Silverstein tweeted immediately after.

Sam Mendes accepts his award on stage at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 5) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 54-year-old filmmaker won the award for Best Director for his new movie 1917!

Sam was nominated in the category with Parasite‘s Bong Joon-ho, Joker‘s Todd Phillips, The Irishman‘s Martin Scorsese, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘s
Quentin Tarantino.

This is Sam‘s second win at the Golden Globes. He was previously a winner in 2000 for his film American Beauty and he was nominated again in 2009 for Revolutionary Road.

Charlize Theron gives Tom Hanks a hug while presenting him with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards.

The 44-year-old Bombshell actress and the 63-year-old A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood star took the stage at the event held on Sunday (January 5) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Charlize opened up about how Tom was the one who cast her in his 1996 film That Thing You Do, one of her first roles in Hollywood. She admitted that she was so nervous, but Tom excused himself for a few minutes to allow her to gather her confidence.

“The most undeniable thing that could be said about Tom Hanks is both deceptively simple and yet overwhelmingly true: he just makes the world a better place,” Charlize said.

Michelle Williams is a winner!

The 39-year-old actress took home the award for Leading Actress in A Mini-Series or Motion Picture for TV for her role in Fosse/Verdon at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 5) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

While on stage, Michelle gave an empowering acceptance speech about women’s rights.

“I’m grateful for the acknowledgement of the choices I’ve made and also grateful to have lived at a moment in our society where choice exists because as women and as girls things can happen to out bodies that are not our choice,” Michelle shared. “I’ve tried my very best to live a life of my own making and not just a series of events that happened to me, but one that I could stand back and look at and recognize my handwriting all over it- sometimes messy and scrawling, sometimes careful and precise, but one that I have carved with my own hand.”

“I wouldn’t have been able to do this without employing a woman’s right to choose,” Michelle added. “To choose when to have my children and with whom. When I felt supported and able to balance our lives, knowing as all mothers know that the scales must and will tilt towards our children.”

Margaret Qualley goes classic with her look for the 2020 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 5) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 25-year-old Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star walked the red carpet alongside The Politician‘s David Corenswet and Kat Graham.

Of its’ five nominations, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has picked up two awards so far – Best Supporting Actor for Brad Pitt and Best Screenplay.

It’s still up for Best Motion Picture – and it WON! That makes three awards for the film.
