Annie Murphy Dishes On Her New TV Role For 'Kevin Can F**k Himself': 'It Was Unique & Exciting'

Annie Murphy is opening up about her brand new series, Kevin Can F**k Himself, in a brand new interview.

The -year-old Emmy winner dished to Emmy Magazine about the show, which centers on her character, Allison McRoberts as the prototypical Sitcom Wife. She’s beautiful and can take a joke (though she’s usually the butt of them); and she’s married to a guy who must’ve won some sort of marriage lottery, because she looks the way she does and he’s…funny.

But what happens when we follow Allison out of her husband’s domain? When she finally wakes up to—and revolts against—the injustices in her life?

Chatting with the glossy, Annie opened up about making the transition from Schitt’s Creek to her new role as Allison, and revealed what she took away from the show was that only women can save women.

“Even with the success of the show, I was still waiting by my phone; and it wasn’t ringing,” Annie recalled. “That was fine in seasons four and five, but when season six came around and it was just crickets, I was like, ‘Well, this might’ve been it.’”

When Kevin came along, she says, it was “not only unique and exciting — it was about something. It was such a weight off and such a sigh of relief when I read this script.”

The show’s creator Valerie Armstrong also shared that the show, at first glance, is “about a toxic marriage. But to me it’s about how women can save each other from toxic situations. We are absolutely asking people to watch it and laugh. But what I want you to do is laugh and then sort of cringe, like, ‘Wait, what did I laugh at? What have I been laughing at? And at whose expense?’”

Annie added, “I was grateful that I wasn’t just a sitcom wife and that I get to be so much more than that in this show.”

Kevin Can F**k Himself will make its’ television debut on Sunday, June 20 on AMC.
