'Friends' Producer Shares Health Update on Matthew Perry After Reunion Special

One of the Friends producers is giving us an update on how Matthew Perry is doing these days.

Shortly after the release of HBO Max’s Friends reunion special, executive producer Kevin Bright talked about the 51-year-old actor’s health, after years of dealing with drug and alcohol abuse.

“I talked to [Matthew]. It was great seeing him again,” Kevin shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “And what people say is what people say. I don’t have any to say about that, except it was great to see him. And I think he’s very funny on the show. But yes, I think he’s OK. He seems stronger and better since the last time I saw him, and excited about going forward.”

Ahead of the Friends reunion special, fans were a bit concerned about Matthew‘s health after they realized that his speech seemed slightly slurred in the trailer. An insider then explained what was going on.

Matthew has been very open about his battle with addiction.

In a 2002 interview with The New York Times, Matthew talked about drinking and doing drugs during his Friends days.

“I had this odd rule that I would never drink on a set,” Matthew explained. “I went to work in extreme cases of hangovers. It’s so horrible to feel that way and have to work and be funny on top of that.”

He added, “I didn’t get sober because I felt like it. I got sober because I was worried I was going to die the next day.”

Matthew went two rehab twice – once in 1997 and again in 2001.
