Sienna Miller Reveals Why She Hated Her 'It Girl' Title

Sienna Miller is opening up.

The 39-year-old actress spoke with The Daily Telegraph about her career and life in the public eye.

When asked what she thought of being labelled an “it girl” by the media, Sienna said that she’s always found the term derisive.

“I find that as soon as I’m put into any sort of box, I just want to kick my way out. Now, I have such a strong sense of who I am and what I’m capable of that it would just roll off my back,” she said.

“It was upsetting at the time,” Sienna explained. “I don’t even know what [“It girl”] means but it does sound reductive. It doesn’t sound nice.”

Sienna also opened up about the media attention she received early in her career, after her then-fiance Jude Law‘s affair with his children’s nanny in 2005 made her a tabloid fixture.

She said, “I don’t feel [that public curiosity] anymore, so it’s like a bad memory. But watching the Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse documentaries and remembering what that time was…”

“[When I] see footage of photographers chasing and attacking women in the way they did, I start shaking – it was so intense,” she continued. “It was a strange time to be a young person becoming well known, at the height of whatever feeding-frenzy was going on in tabloid culture.”

Last year, Sienna discussed the “public heartbreak” she went through after Jude Law‘s infidelity.
