Golden Globes 2020 Ratings Slightly Slip, Reaches 8-Year Viewer Low

The ratings for the 2020 Golden Globes are in!

Viewership for the annual ceremony, hosted by Ricky Gervais, slightly slipped from last year, drawing in 18.325 million viewers and a 4.7 rating among adults 18-49, according to the Live+same day Nielsen numbers.

The numbers were down 2% in total viewers and down 11% in the demo from the 2019 award show, which was hosted by Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh.

According to Deadline, the 2019 show had the advantage of a stronger lead-in as NFL playoff game that preceded it ended six minutes before the Globes start time, whereas this year’s game ended 21 minutes before the ceremony’s start.

The ratings mark an eight-year low for the program, with the 2012 show drawing in 16.85 million viewers.

Despite the dip, the Globes still brought in the evening’s second-highest audience with the top slot going to the NFL broadcast.
