Nickelodeon Will Reunite Cast of 'The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage!' For TV Special

Nickelodeon just made our holidays even better, because the Spongebob Squarepants musical will be coming in December!

For the 20th anniversary of the series, the network is reuniting the cast of The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage! for a TV special, which will air sometime in December.

“What better way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants than to bring this wildly imaginative Broadway musical to Nickelodeon for a wider audience?” Rob Bagshaw, Executive Vice President of Nickelodeon Live Action Unscripted and Live Events, shared in a statement. “We could not be more excited that fans and families of all ages will now have the opportunity to experience live actors portraying these beloved characters in a whole new way with The SpongeBob Musical: Live on Stage!”

Ethan Slater as SpongeBob, Gavin Lee as Squidward, Danny Skinner as Patrick, Brian Ray Norris as Mr. Krabs, Wesley Taylor as Plankton, and Jai’len Josey as Pearl, will all be back for the event.

The musical is directed by Tina Landau and features songs from Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, and They Might Be Giants.

The SpongeBob Musical: Live On Stage! pits SpongeBob against an impending apocalypse. It’s also one of the most delightful productions to hit the stage in the last few years, making it particularly happy news that the show will be preserved for audiences to come.
