Tyra Banks is reflecting on her successful modeling career, including her well-publicized drama with Naomi Campbell.

The 45-year-old businesswoman sat down for an interview about her investments, branding and modeling with Wall Street Journal on Thursday (July 18).

During the conversation, Tyra was asked about her relationship with Naomi Campbell and their rivalry.

“It wasn’t a rivalry, I’m very sensitive to that word because a rivalry is with two equals, whereas one was very dominant, and I was just some new girl that got on a plane from Paris,” she explained.

“I had a very painful early days in Paris…people didn’t know I was going home crying my eyes out because a woman that I was looking up to seemed like she just didn’t want me to there, and was doing everything in her power to make me go away.”

“I didn’t understand that as a young girl…the adult me understands that she was reacting to an industry that was all about a token,” she went on to say.

“When I came on the scene – Naomi, look out! There’s a black girl that’s going to take your spot. Only one spot available.”

Tyra Banks hits the stage for Day One of the 2019 AT&T Shape event on Saturday (June 22) at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif.

The 45-year-old model and businesswoman looked pretty in a black and silver dress as she spoke during her “Tyra Banks Trail Blazing Entertainment Ventures – Whats Next?: A Phygital Dream Come True” panel.

Also stepping out for the event was Geena Davis and Mayim Bialik who joined forces for “The Scully Effect – I Want to Believe in STEM” panel.

The immersive, two-day event, explores 5G and the future of entertainment through interactive activations and thought-provoking panels from celebrities, activists, content creators and industry leaders – all changing the way we view, consume and engage with content.

Heidi Klum shares a big hug with Tyra Banks while hitting the stage together at the live final taping of Germany’s Next Top Model held at the ISS Dome on Thursday (May 23) in Duesseldorf, Germany.

The 45-year-old model-host and Tyra, also 45, who created the original America’s Top Model, were also joined by Heidi‘s fiance Tom Kaulitz and his twin brother Bill.

The Tokio Hotel rockers served as the musical guest for the night and hit the stage for a special performance, which featured them getting soaked by a waterfall.

The 45-year-old model and cover girl was joined by fellow cover girl Camille Kostek, Barbara Palvin, Kate Brock, Jasmine Sanders, and Olivia Culpo.

Also in attendance were Hailey Clauson, Raine Michaels, Kelsey Merritt, Anne de Paula, Halima Aden, Hunter McGrady, Samantha Hoopes, and Danielle Herrington.

The next day, Tyra shared her own spin on the 10 year challenge, involving a comparison of her first Sports Illustrated cover and her now, in the same bikini.

“Remember the 10 year challenge every one was doing on social? The one where you posted a photo of yourself now next to a photo of yourself 10 years ago?” Tyra wrote on Instagram. “Well, I guess this is my @si_swimsuit 22 year challenge. Scroll the pic to see. But to me, it’s not just about what I’m looking like. It’s about what I’m FEELING like. Back then, I knew I had a plan to do more than model. I knew I wanted to make a difference. I knew I had a calling to do more than for just myself. I just didn’t know HOW I was gonna do it.”

“Today, 22 years later, I rise out of bed everyday to show that yes, a woman who was a model (and is now a model again!) can indeed be powerful beyond pictures. Can indeed be a strong leader in changing the world’s perceptions of narrowly defined beauty. Can indeed be an example for others to follow so I can sit back one day when I’m old and gray to enjoy the things that YOU are doing to push my mission further than I ever dreamed possible,” she added. “Yeah, my 22 year challenge has a whole ‘nother meaning beyond what you just SEE. #BanX”

The two models, who are the cover stars for this year’s SI Swimsuit issue, stepped out at the event on Friday afternoon (May 10) at Ice Palace in Miami, Fla.

They were also joined by fellow models Olivia Culpo, Barbara Palvin, Winnie Harlow and Jasmine Sanders.

During the event, the ladies joined panels to discuss beauty, diversity, female empowerment and more!

Tyra Banks is all smiles as she poses with her brand new 2019 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition cover outside of the Good Morning America studios on Wednesday morning (May 7) in New York City.

The 45-year-old supermodel, who was the first African-American model to appear on the cover of this publication alongside model Valeria Mazza in 1996, came out of retirement for the 2019 issue.

Tyra was joined for the GMA reveal by model Camille Kostek (who you may recognize as Rob Gronkowski‘s girlfriend), who also graces her very own cover.

“My first one was 23 years ago, how crazy is that,” Tyra said on GMA. “I’m like damn — I’m 45 dog!”

Ben McKenzie and Morena Baccarin made it a date night at the opening of Tootsie!

The couple stepped out for the Broadway musical on Tuesday evening (April 23) at the Marquis Theatre in New York City.

They were also joined at the musical by Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale.

Other attendees included Debra Messing, Kristin Chenoweth, Bryan Cranston, Tyra Banks, Jane Krakowski, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Carol Burnett.

“WOW. Tonight was EPIC. @Tootsiemusical opened tonight on #Broadway and it was Amazinggggggggg! It is the funniest musical I’ve ever seen in my life. Run to see it. You never know who you’ll see there!” Debra wrote on her Instagram after the show.

Tootsie, based on the 1982 movie, follows an out-of-work actor who reinvents himself as actress Dorothy Michaels to wins the part in a soap opera.
