Renee Zellweger to Star in NBC True Crime Limited Series 'The Thing About Pam'!

Renee Zellweger is taking on a TV role for the first time.

The 51-year-old actress will star in and executive produce a limited series called The Thing About Pam at NBC with a six-episode straight to series order, Deadline reported Thursday (February 4).

The show is “based on the murder of Betsy Faria which resulted in her husband Russ’ conviction. He always insisted that he did not kill her, and his conviction was later overturned as the brutal crime set off a chain of events that would expose a diabolical scheme deeply involving Pam Hupp, a role that will be played by Zellweger.”

The series will be written by Jessika Borsiczky (House of Lies) who will serve as showrunner.

The Betsy Faria case was featured on several episodes of Dateline, and was the subject of NBC News’ popular 2019 Dateline podcast, The Thing About Pam, which remains one of the most downloaded podcasts on iTunes.

“As someone who hasn’t missed an episode of Dateline in 10 years, what immediately stood out to me about Pam from other true crime stories is that while on its surface it has all the twists and turns of a thrilling whodunit murder mystery, it’s really a character story at its heart that reflects in a profound way the American landscape back to us,” showrunner Jessika Borsiczky said.

It was recently revealed that one of Renee‘s most famous co-stars didn’t originally think she was right for a big role!

Hugh Grant Admits He Didn't Initially Didn't Think Renee Zellweger Was Right Fit for 'Bridget Jones's Diary'

Hugh Grant is looking back on Bridget Jones’s Diary 19 years later!

The 60-year-old actor took part in the new BBC Two documentary Being Bridget Jones where he chatted about Renee Zellweger being cast as the British lovesick thirtysomething, admitting that he wasn’t entirely convinced she was the right choice at first.

“There was a whole scandal about why isn’t this a British actress?” Hugh said, according to The Independent. “I didn’t know Renée Zellweger, and a Texan playing a British character, it did seem like a stretch.”

Hugh then went on to talk about the 51-year-old actress’ audition, saying it was “good” and that he found it “startling” because her accent sounded very familiar to Queen Elizabeth‘s sister Princess Margaret’s voice.

“She was told to kind of, well she thought she better loosen it up a bit,’” Hugh said, adding that a week later Renee‘s accent “was bang on.”

Earlier this month in another interview, Hugh said Renee is one of the few co-stars he still keeps in touch with.

Hugh Grant Still Talks to 'Bridget Jones' Co-Star Renee Zellweger: 'She's One of the Few Actresses I Haven't Fallen Out With'

Hugh Grant still stays in touch with his Bridget Jones co-star Renee Zellweger and says she’s one of the only female co-stars he still keeps in touch with regularly!

“I love Renée. Uh, she’s one of the few actresses I haven’t fallen out with,” Hugh said on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show. “And, we, we got on very well together and, we still exchange long emails.”

“Hers in particular, at least 70 pages each, interesting stuff, but quite hard to decipher and, she’s a properly good egg and a genius,” Hugh continued. “Did you see her Judy Garland? About as good as acting gets.”

The pair co-starred in Bridget Jones’ Diary back in 200 as well as the sequel, The Edge of Reason, in 2004. Renee starred in the third movie, Bridget Jones’ Baby back in 2016, but Hugh did not personally film additional scenes (though his character is involved!)

Jim Carrey Calls Ex Fiancee Renee Zellweger 'Great Love of My Life'

In his new satirical memoir “Memoirs and Misinformation,” Jim Carrey described his ex girlfriend Renee Zellweger as the “great love of my life.” If you don’t know, they dated after meeting on the set of My, Myself & Irene and were actually engaged but split in December of 2000.

Howard Stern asked Jim during an interview about using that phrase to describe his ex and he responded, “She was special to me, very special. I think she’s lovely.”

He was then asked if she was “the one that got away,” to which the actor replied, “I don’t regret, I don’t have those things. But I do appreciate the people that have come through my life for the good that they gave me and that’s why Linda Ronstadt has a special place in the book.” Jim dated Linda briefly in the 1980s.

“I don’t pine for anybody, it’s not that kind of situation. It’s just my way of saying ‘There was a very important thing there’ and recognize that,” Jim added.

If you missed it, Renee recently reunited with another famous ex.

Renee Zellweger Wears Mask & Gloves While Stocking Up On Groceries

Renee Zellweger wears a mask and gloves while making a run to the grocery store over the weekend in Los Angeles.

The 50-year-old recent Oscar winner picked up some essential items for quarantine from the Erewhon market.

Renee appears on the new cover of Brain & Life magazine with Courteney Cox and their former publicist, Nanci Ryder.

Speaking to the magazine, Renee opened up about how her friendship with Nanci has endured during her battle with ALS.

“You’re not born knowing how to manage something like this with grace. Every time I see her, I don’t know what to expect in terms of how she’ll be or how my own emotions will be. But like any friendship, it has stages and evolves,” she says. “You adapt. You trust that the love you feel will help you navigate. You just show up.”

Renee adds, “I have accepted that this is how I will go forward in our friendship. I will continue to love her, to advocate for her, and to show up.”
