'Waves' Stars Sterling K. Brown & Renee Elise Goldsberry Only Have Praise for Kanye West

Sterling K. Brown and Waves co-star Renee Elise Goldsberry pose for a photo at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Coversations event for their movie on Friday (November 1) in Los Angeles.

The actors also did a Deadline Contenders panel the next day, where they praised Kanye West for providing music to the film.

“Bless his heart,” they both said. Sterling explained that Waves writer and director Trey Edward Shults provided music embedded in the script for the actors to hear while reading it.

“As you read the script you could hit a button, listen to a song. So the script had a song track to it,” Sterling said. “First time I’ve ever encountered that. It was awesome. And almost all of the music that was in the original script made it into the film.”

“Which was a testament to the film that Kanye, for example, gave so much music,” Renee added. “It’s beautiful because we get attached to the marriage of the music and the story and without the gift of their offering of that music we would have missed it.”

Waves, in theaters November 15, follows the epic emotional journey of a suburban African-American family—led by a well-intentioned but domineering father—as they navigate love, forgiveness, and coming together in the aftermath of a loss.

The Governors Awards, which is organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, is the official start of awards season.

Sterling K. Brown is making Waves at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival!

The 43-year-old actor stepped out for the film’s premiere on Tuesday evening (September 10) at Ryerson Theatre in Toronto, Canada.

He was joined by his wife Ryan Michelle Bathe as well as co-stars Alexa Demie, Lucas Hedges, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Renee Elise Goldsberry and Taylor Russell as well as director Trey Edwards Shults.

The film follows the epic journey of a suburban African-American family – led by a well-intentioned, but domineering father – as they navigate love, forgiveness, and coming together in the aftermath of a loss.

Waves was a total knockout when it first premiered during the 2019 Telluride Film Festival earlier this summer – and now we finally get to see the first trailer.

Written and directed by Trey Edward Shults, the film follows the epic journey of a suburban African-American family – led by a well-intentioned, but domineering father – as they navigate love, forgiveness, and coming together in the aftermath of a loss.

Sterling stars in the film alongside Lucas Hedges, Taylor Russell, Kelvin Harris Jr, and Renee Elise Goldsberry.

Lin-Manuel Miranda Reunites with 'Hamilton' Co-Stars at 'Twelfth Night' Opening in Central Park!

Lin-Manuel Miranda happily poses alongside his pal, director Thomas Kail, while hitting the carpet at the opening night of Public Works’ Twelfth Night held at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park on Tuesday (July 31) in New York City.

The 38-year-old entertainer was joined at the event by his former Hamilton co-stars Renee Elise Goldsberry and Phillipa Soo, as well as Rachel Dratch and Brandon Victor Dixon, who also came out to show their support.

“Yup. Public Works by @PublicTheaterNY is my favorite show every year, this year’s production of Twelfth Night is no different,” Lin tweeted about the production. “Brava @ShainaTaub!!! Bravo you extraordinary company!!!”

Performances began July 17 and are scheduled through August 19.

Daveed Diggs is all smiles as he hits the red carpet with his cast mates at the premiere of their film Blindspotting hosted by Lionsgate at the Angelika Film Center on Monday (July 16) in New York City.

The 36-year-old actor and his co-stars Rafael Casal, Janina Gavankar and Jasmine Cephas Jones were also joined by the film’s director Carlos Lopez Estrada and producers Keith and Jess Calder.

The after party was held at Public Arts, and guests drank Qui tequila cocktails.
