Nicolas Cage will return a dinosaur skull he bought at an auction after it was discovered that it was actual stolen property.

The 51-year-old actor purchased the fossil at an auction in March 2007 and he has a certificate of authenticity from the auction company.

Nicolas‘ reps were “contacted in/around July 2014 by US Dept of Homeland Security and informed that, based on an ongoing multi-year investigation, they believed that the fossil [he] purchased may have been illegally smuggled into the US from Mongolia,” his publicist told JustJared.com.

After it was determined “by the Dept of Homeland Security and the US Attorney’s Office that the fossil was indeed illegally smuggled into the US and rightfully belongs to the Government of Mongolia, [Nicolas] agreed to transfer possession of the fossil to the Dept. of Homeland Security,” the rep continued.

Nicolas Cage is dapper in a gray suit while attending the premiere of his latest film The Runner held at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres on Wednesday (August 5) in Hollywood, Calif.

The 51-year-old actor was joined on the red carpet by his son Weston Cage and his wife Danielle, as well as co-stars Bryan Batt and Ciera Payton, producer Bingo Gubelmann and director Austin Stark.

The movie is based on the real story of former CIA employee Edward Snowden, who leaked thousands of classified documents to the press.

Nicolas Cage poses with his young co-star Tye Sheridan on the red carpet at the Cinema Society screening of their movie Joe on Wednesday evening (April 9) at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in New York City.

The 17-year-old actor recently chatted with Red Eye Chicago about working on movies with Nicolas, Brad Pitt (The Tree of Life), and Matthew McConaughey (Mud).

On working with Brad Pitt: “I don’t know. When I filmed Tree of Life, I wasn’t a big movie watcher. Honestly, I didn’t even know who Brad Pitt was.”

On working with Matthew McConaughey: “I remember seeing him in some of his romantic comedies. Actually, I saw him in Dazed and Confused, Fool’s Gold. Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, that was probably the first one I saw.”

On working with Nicolas Cage: “Of course I saw him in the [Ghost Rider movies] when I was younger. I remember watching The Rock when I was really young with my dad. I think that was the first movie I had ever seen with him.”

Rosario Dawson hits the red carpet at the premiere of the new movie Joe held during the 2014 SXSW Music, Film + Interactive Festival on Sunday (March 9) at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Tex.

The 34-year-old actress was joined at the event by the film’s stars Nicolas Cage and Tye Sheridan.
