Thandiwe Newton‘s daughter, Nico Parker, has joined the cast of the upcoming series The Last Of Us, which is an adaptation of the very popular video game by the same name.

The series also stars as Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey and Gabriel Luna, who are set to appear as Joel, Ellie and Tommy.

Nico will take on the role of Joel’s daughter in the upcoming HBO series, Deadline reports. The series “takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”

Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson, who played P.T. Barnum and Jenny Lind in the movie musical, are starring in the upcoming action thriller for Warner Bros.

Here is the synopsis: Nick Bannister (Jackman), a private investigator of the mind, navigates the darkly alluring world of the past by helping his clients access lost memories. Living on the fringes of the sunken Miami coast, his life is forever changed when he takes on a new client, Mae (Ferguson). A simple matter of lost and found becomes a dangerous obsession. As Bannister fights to find the truth about Mae’s disappearance, he uncovers a violent conspiracy, and must ultimately answer the question: how far would you go to hold on to the ones you love?

Also starring in the film are Thandiwe Newton, her daughter Nico Parker, and her Westworld co-star Angela Sarafyan, along with Cliff Curtis, Marina de Tavira, Daniel Wu, Mojean Aria, Brett Cullen, and Natalie Martinez.

The movie was written and directed by Westworld‘s Lisa Joy.

Reminiscence will be released in theaters on August 21 and it will be available on HBO Max that same day for 31 days.

If you weren’t aware, Nico was one of the stars of Disney’s live-action remake of Dumbo earlier this year. The 14-year-old actress doesn’t yet have anything on her slate as a follow-up, but we can’t wait to see what she does next!

Here’s what the 14-year-old Dumbo and Little actors had to say…

Marsai, the youngest Hollywood executive producer in history, on becoming more confident thanks to her acting and producing experience: “The first time I was in Universal, I was 10, and I [was wearing] this blazer. Now, it’s like I come in with sweats with a hoodie, and I’m just like, ‘So, here’s what’s going down guys.’”

Nico, on refusing to be told that her way of seeing the world is somehow incorrect just because she’s young: “For young people, it’s often said that we’re always on our phones, and we’re not aware of our surroundings, and we’re not aware of what’s going on in the world. It’s the complete opposite.”

Nico, on how her mother, actor Thandie Newton, is helping her learn to be aware of the pitfalls of fame and how situations can become dangerous or manipulative, especially for young women: “[My mom] is very ‘mama bear’ over me. Just the fact that she’s been through things herself, it also teaches me what situations I can avoid, or what situations that I can stay in.”

Marsai, on what she could tell her 9-year-old self, learning to speak up for herself, and her plan to “change the normal”: “What you say matters, and your voice is heard…. [Little] made me feel like this can happen. It wasn’t impossible. We definitely need more of that in the industry. Of course, the more I keep creating, the more that will probably happen.”

Nico‘s parents are actress Thandie Newton and director Ol Parker, but she says she didn’t look to them for advice when it came to preparing for her role.

“When it came to acting, I didn’t really want advice,” she told THR. “It was very much my own experience.”

Nico revealed that the one major piece of advice that her dad gave her was to learn the names of every person working on the set.
