Tom & Jerry is No. 1!

The live-action/CGI hybrid just notched the second-best domestic opening of the entire pandemic as of Sunday (February 28), according to THR.

The movie brought in $13.7 million from 2,475 theaters and a global total of $38.8 million through Sunday, the outlet reported.

The opening marks the second-best three-day launch of the pandemic behind fellow Warner Bros. release Wonder Woman 1984 ($16.7 million) amid theater re-openings around the country.

“The strong debut of the family pic — by COVID-19 terms— is a good sign for Hollywood as New York City theaters prepare to open on March 5 (Los Angeles). It’s also a win, at least in the short term, for Warners’ policy of opening its 2021 titles simultaneously in theaters on HBO Max,” THR reported, adding that roughly half of the country’s theaters are still closed.

The new movie Tom & Jerry is now in theaters and it’s going to be a surprise box office hit for Warner Bros.

In addition to being in theaters, the movie is available to stream at home on HBO Max at no extra charge to subscribers.

50% of all movie theaters in the U.S. are still closed due to the pandemic, including major markets like New York and Los Angeles, so no movies are expected to be doing major business right now. The theaters that are open also have to adhere to capacity restrictions.

Deadline reports that Tom & Jerry earned $4 million on Friday (February 26) and the film is expected to gross $12.5 million for the full opening weekend. That will be the second highest weekend gross during the pandemic, behind only Wonder Woman 1984‘s $16.4 million opening weekend.

These numbers are giving industry insiders some hope that the box office will be able to recover once the pandemic is over.

Stanley Tucci is being replaced by Michael Peña in the Roland Emmerich-helmed sci-fi epic Moonfall.

Unfortunately, Stanley had to exit the project “due to government-imposed travel restrictions banning UK flights into Canada,” Deadline reports.

The cast also includes Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Eme Ikwuakor, Charlie Plummer and Donald Sutherland.

Here’s a synopsis of the film, according to Deadline: The space drama takes off with a mysterious force that knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact, and against all odds, a ragtag team launches an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love and risking everything to land on the lunar surface and save our planet from annihilation.

Tom & Jerry is hitting the big screen!

The highly anticipated film, set to hit theaters on March 5, 2021, just released a trailer on Tuesday (November 17).

Here’s a plot summary: “One of the most beloved rivalries in history is reignited when Jerry moves into New York City’s finest hotel on the eve of ‘the wedding of the century,’ forcing the event’s desperate planner to hire Tom to get rid of him, in director Tim Story’s Tom & Jerry. The ensuing cat and mouse battle threatens to destroy her career, the wedding and possibly the hotel itself. But soon, an even bigger problem arises: a diabolically ambitious staffer conspiring against all three of them.”

The movie is described as a blend of classic animation and live action, and stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Rob Delaney, Colin Jost and Ken Jeong, and is based on characters created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.

One highly anticipated animated film is no longer hitting theaters.

Lucy Hale is surrounded by the cast of Fantasy Island while attending the film’s premiere on Tuesday (February 11) at AMC Century City in Los Angeles.

Joining Lucy at the event were co-stars Portia Doubleday, Austin Stowell, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Michael Pena, Michael Rooker, Ryan Hansen, Jimmy O. Yang, Charlotte McKinney, and Joshua Diaz, as well as writer and director Jeff Wadlow and producer Jason Blum.

Fantasy Island hits theaters on February 14, just in time for a Valentine’s Day scare.
