There are many rumors about what exactly happened with Bill Murray and Lucy Liu on the set of 2000′s Charlie’s Angels.
The rumor was that Bill, who played Bosley in the first movie, was replaced by Bernie Mac in the sequel due to a disagreement with Lucy, who was rumored to have “thrown punches” at Bill for what he said to her.
Now, a production assistant on the movie is speaking out about what really happened.
Lucy Liu is looking back at one of her most iconic roles.
The 52-year-old actress described how the Charlie’s Angels franchise impacted her and helped to “move the needle” for the Asian community in an op-ed for The Washington Post.
Drew Barrymore hosted an epic Charlie’s Angels reunion with Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu on the premiere episode of The Drew Barrymore Show today (September 14), but it wasn’t without a little help from technology.
“The thing that I love about our friendship is that we have been there in all the big and important moments,” the 45-year-old actress shared on the program. “We’ve also been there in the small moments and the casual moments and the reason we are such good friends is because it’s real and we go through real stuff with each other. It’s not a Hollywood fairytale.”
After speaking with Lucy and Cameron on their Angels memories, Drew revealed that one of the three were actually a hologram – and it was Cameron!
“Are we all together in this room?” Drew asked, with Cameron adding, “Are we? I feel like we are connected in some way but maybe?”
She revealed that while Drew and Lucy were in New York filming the appearance, she was actually in Los Angeles.
“You’ve got to try this it’s so incredible. The ether, the little particles going out into space and coming back re-massing into this beautiful space. You guys, it’s crazy, you should try it, it tingles!” she shared.
“My dear Angels, it’s a 20-year reunion. 20 years ago we were an elite crime-fighting team, and now look at us,” she said during the ceremony.
During the premiere episode of Drew’s talk show, she is also set to reunite with longtime friend and collaborator Adam Sandler, as well as deliver a big surprise for a deserving family of essential workers in one of the show’s signature segments known as, “Designed by Drew.”

Lucy Liu is giving a rare glimpse into her life as a mom!
The 51-year-old Charlie’s Angels actress shared an adorable photo of her son Rockwell blowing out the candle on his cake on his fifth birthday.
“My darling son turned 5 yesterday. He is a rainbow of light and his energy is pure magic,” Lucy captioned the post.
She also used the post to share her vision for the future and her hopes that Biden and Harris will be elected in the fall.
Lucy continued, “As a human being, a woman, a mother, a daughter – now more than ever we must come together to fight for the soul of this nation. Let’s all wish as hard as he is for a brighter and safer future for our children and Mother Earth. I am all in for #BidenHarris2020 and their vision for an inclusive America.”
Lucy welcomed her son into the world via gestational surrogacy in 2015. She previously made a public appearance with him while getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. See those photos in the gallery!
The workplace comedy, also known as Kids Matter Now in development, follows Lucy as “Devin, the fierce and powerful head of Shelter, a large and successful modern furniture company. She is a force and is unfamiliar with failure. But when Devin adopts a baby, she is ill-prepared for the task of parenting and feels at a complete loss as to how to be a mom.”
ABC revealed that the pilot is one of five that it intends to film as soon as it is safe to do so amid the pandemic. Last month, ABC said they were picking up cast options through to the end of September.
The multi-camera comedy is written and executive produced by Friends alum Shana Goldberg-Meehan. Lucy will also be a producer.
