Andra Day continued the celebrations on Oscars night with a star-studded after party!

The 36-year-old entertainer, who was nominated for Best Actress for her work in The United States vs. Billie Holiday, attended an after party at private membership club Spring Place LA on Sunday night (April 25) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The socially distant event was attended by cast members from the film, including Tyler James Williams, Miss Lawrence, Garrett Hedlund, Evan Ross, and Rob Morgan, as well as director Lee Daniels.

Other friends in attendance at the event included model Winnie Harlow and Garrett‘s partner Emma Roberts.

Andra changed into her second custom Vera Wang dress of the night and she swapped her high heels for a comfy pair of furry black slippers. Check out the gown she wore to the main event too.

There were strict protocols in place for the party. “No one can enter tonight unless they are COVID tested in our testing facility. Spring Place has secured the services of a company to build this on site and to specifically handle testing,” a Spring Place rep told Variety. “Guests may enter with a negative test and then they are allowed to go into the restaurant, no matter if they’re in possession of a vaccine card or not. This is super strict with zero exceptions. We want our guests and staff to be safe.”

Lee Daniels‘ United States Vs. Billie Holiday film finally premiered on Hulu tonight and fans have a lot of thoughts about the flick.

The movie centers on Billie Holiday, one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time, who spent much of her career being adored by fans across the globe.

However, not many recall that beginning in the 1940’s in New York City, the federal government targeted Billie in a growing effort to escalate and racialize the war on drugs, ultimately aiming to stop her from singing her controversial and heart-wrenching ballad, “Strange Fruit.”

After screening the movie, many fans took to social media and opened up about how the movie resonated with them and how mad they are for the treatment Billie was subject to.

“I’m mad as hell the Billie Holiday movie got me pissed off at bae like this,” one fan wrote after watching.

Another added, “This movie made me very sad for Billie Holiday. Black women in general.”

Andra Day, who plays Billie, is nominated at this weekend’s Golden Globes for her role, as well as Best Original Song.

ABC is moving forward with its’ Wonder Years reboot.

The network announced today that the Lee Daniels produced series has given a formal pilot order to start shooting, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The new version of the popular series will focus on how a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, in the turbulent late 1960s made sure it was “the wonder years” for them, too.

The original series, which aired from 1988 to 1993, centered on a white middle-class family.

The show made its young stars, Fred Savage and Danica McKellar, into household names.

Fred will be part of the new series as an executive producer and will direct the pilot, too.

Plans for the reboot were announced in the summer of 2020.

The upcoming movie The United States vs Billie Holiday, which stars Andra Day as the title character, has been sold to Hulu!

The film was directed by Oscar nominee Lee Daniels and it has been considered a major contender during the 2021 awards season.

Variety reports that the movie was originally set up for a sale at Paramount Pictures, but the deal never actually closed. That studio had been planning an advertising campaign for the film, but now that the pandemic is not slowing down, it makes sense for the movie to be released elsewhere.

The United States vs. Billie Holiday was originally scheduled for a theatrical release on February 26, 2021. No date has been announced for a streaming premiere on Hulu.

It’s likely that streaming services will dominate the Oscars in 2021 with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and Apple all in the running with major contenders!

The Wonder Years is coming back.

30 years after the show ended, ABC is teaming with Empire‘s Lee Daniels and Fred Savage to reboot the classic coming-of-age series, which will now feature a Black family, THR reported Wednesday (July 8).

“The comedy has received a sizable pilot-production commitment and will open a mini-writers’ room once the network approves the script. The goal, per sources, is for the new Wonder Years to be developed for the 2021-22 television season,” the outlet reports.

The original series starred Fred in the 1960s suburbs, and the new version “focuses on how a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, in the turbulent late ’60s made sure it was ‘the wonder years’ for them, too.”

Original series co-creator Neal Marlens is attached as a consultant. Fred will also be directing. We’re excited to see the re-imagined series!

Empire‘s next episode will also be its finale for the foreseeable future.

The long-running show’s 18th episode of its final sixth season due to air next week will be its last for now, creators confirmed on Tuesday (April 14).

Lee Daniels and Danny Strong issued statements about the sudden ending of the show.

“The success of Empire and bringing the Lyon family to broadcast television will always be one of the proudest achievements of my career. This show is the definition of breaking barriers. Thank you to our incredible cast, especially Terrence and Taraji, along with our amazing writers and tireless crew, for all of their hard work and bringing this story to life. I think there’s more to do with these characters, and I’m heartbroken we aren’t getting to shoot the finale we wanted—at least not yet. But you know what they say in television? Stay tuned! To the Empire!” Lee said, via Deadline.

“We’re so proud of this show and of everything this incredible cast – led by Taraji and Terrence- and crew accomplished over six seasons. The episode airing on April 21 was never meant to be the series finale, but due to current events it will likely be the last one our fans will see for a while. We had an ending for the series planned that we all loved, and hopefully someday we’ll be able to film it and give the series its proper conclusion. But we hope everyone tunes in to our last original episode, because the work done by our cast and crew deserves to be seen by the widest audience possible. Big thank you to Fox for being our home for these many years. And here’s hoping this isn’t the end!” said Danny Strong.

Taraji previously spoke about how shooting was cut short for the series.

Lee Daniels is teaming up with the creators of The Walking Dead for a new movie!

The 59-year-old Oscar-nominated director is attached to direct the movie adaption of Stealth, which is based on an upcoming Skybound/Image comic created by The Walking Dead creator and exec producer Robert Kirkman and Marc Silvestri, Deadline reports.

Here’s the synopsis of the comic story: “For decades, Stealth has waged war on crime in Detroit, but now he’s taken his pursuit of justice too far. Only reporter Tony Barber knows that behind Stealth’s reckless behavior is an older man battling Alzheimer’s—his father. A father unwilling to accept that he’s no longer the hero this city needs… with enemies all too eager to force his retirement.”

The first issue of the Stealth comic will be released under Skybound/Image on March 11, 2020.
