Judd Apatow's Upcoming Netflix Movie Has a Star-Studded Cast - See the Full List!

Judd Apatow is getting back in the director’s chair for his very first movie at Netflix and he has set up a star-studded cast list for the project.

The upcoming comedy is called The Bubble and it is set during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deadline reports that the “film follows a group of actors and actresses stuck inside a pandemic bubble at a hotel attempting to complete a film. The pic couldn’t be more timely as more and more productions are ramping back up even as Covid-19 remains in full effect around the world.”

Judd co-wrote the movie with Lady Dynamite creator Pam Brady and he is also producing the film.

Did you know that Judd has only directed six other feature films? His other credits are 2005′s The 40-Year-Old Virgin, 2007′s Knocked Up, 2009′s Funny People, 2012′s This is 40, 2015′s Trainwreck, and 2020′s The King of Staten Island.

Judd Apatow Puts Warner Bros. on Blast for the 'Disrespect' of HBO Max Streaming Decision

Judd Apatow is calling out Warner Bros.

After the studio revealed that they’ll be releasing their entire slate of 2021 releases via HBO Max, the King of Staten Island director spoke out against the decision as part of Variety‘s Virtual FYC Fest.

During the appearance, he discussed how his Universal film The King of Staten Island skipped theaters amid the pandemic and went straight to premium video-on-demand in June.

“It was a very respectful conversation about how to get the movie out there,” he said.

“The only thing I really have to give to the human race is something pleasant at a time like this that might make you feel happy and appreciate the people that are risking their lives for you.”

However, he said watching the Warner Bros. decision “certainly made me appreciate Universal.”

“It’s somewhat shocking that a studio for their entire slate could call what appears to be nobody. It’s the type of disrespect that you hear about in the history of show business. But to do that to just every single person that you work with is really somewhat stunning,” he said.

He also discussed how he and Universal worked out compensation before his movie went to PVOD, which was different from switching movies that were meant for theatrical distribution to a streaming service.

“It creates a financial nightmare, because most people are paid residuals — they’re paid back-end points. What they get out of it for years and years of hard work is usually based on the success of their films. And so now what does it mean to have a movie go straight to streaming? How do they decide what to pay you? Do you even have a contract that allows you to negotiate, or is it really just up to them at this point? It raises thousands of questions, which I’m sure are very complicated.”

The Dune director similarly has spoken out against the decision.

Judd Apatow Explains Why a 'Freaks & Geeks' Reunion Probably Will Never Happen

The television series Freaks and Geeks lasted only one season, but it has gained a legion of fans in the two decades since it went off the air.

Judd Apatow, one of the show’s executive producers, is opening up about why there probably won’t ever be a reunion that gives us an update on the characters. If you didn’t know, Linda Cardellini‘s character Lindsay ends the series by going on tour with the Grateful Dead.

“The ending came out so well, you get afraid to open it up again,” Judd said in an interview with Boston radio station Mix 104.1. “It’s somewhat of a magical ending, it ends with her just disappearing to go follow The Grateful Dead. You don’t really want to know how that went. You assume she took a lot of acid, so she’d probably would just come home just strung out on acid. So, is that the end we really want?”

Linda starred alongside James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, Busy Philipps, and others on the show, which was created by Bridesmaids director Paul Feig.

In a recent interview, Judd explained why the show is not available for streaming.

Judd Apatow Reveals Why Steve Carell Yells Out Kelly Clarkson's Name in '40-Year-Old Virgin'

Judd Apatow wears a mask over his beard while stepping out for lunch with wife Leslie Mann in Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon (June 17).

The -year-old filmmaker and Leslie enjoyed dining out at a local eatery before waiting for their car at valet to head back home for the night.

Earlier in the day, Judd appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show remotely, where he answered one of the biggest questions in cinema – why Steve Carell yells out the singer’s name in The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

“I’m going to blame Seth Rogen,” he said, before revealing that he and the crew actually had a list of curses that Steve could shout during the scene. Kelly‘s name was a “clean” word.

Kelly laughed about the list they had: “I love that I made it between ‘burger panties’ and ‘throbbing monkey-tail’. It doesn’t matter what I do in my life, no one remembers me for anything other than that.”

Pete Davidson's Movie 'The King of Staten Island' Abruptly Pulled From Drive-In Theaters

Pete Davidson‘s movie, The King of Staten Island, is being pulled from drive-in theaters.

The theaters were “abruptly informed they were not able to show the film,” Variety reported on Friday (June 12).

The movie was seemingly intended to debut in a limited number of theaters, mostly drive-ins, that were still open amid the pandemic, while also launching across premium video-on-demand platforms.

“The news has created consternation, and even outrage, in the close-knit community of drive-in operators, many of whom have been promoting showtimes and selling tickets for The King of Staten Island. Now, they’ve had to offer refunds and scramble to find new content to show under short notice. Universal didn’t give exhibitors any reasoning behind the hasty decision,” the outlet reported.

“There was no explanation. They changed their mind,” one theater owner told the publication.

However, it seems it might have all come down to an original miscommunication.

“Insiders at Universal chalked it up to an internal misunderstanding, saying The King of Staten Island was always intended to premium exclusively on-demand, however some executives unintentionally booked the film in about 100 theaters. When they realized the mistake, the studio went back to theaters and asked them not to play it,” Variety reports.

Judd Apatow also addressed the situation earlier in the week.

“THIS IS AN ERROR. THE KING OF STATEN ISLAND IS ONLY OPENING ON VOD FRIDAY. IT IS NOT OPENING IN THEATERS,” he wrote on Wednesday (June 10).

Pete Davidson Drops New Trailer for 'The King of Staten Island,' His New Movie Going to VOD!

Pete Davidson was going to make his big-screen starring debut in the movie The King of Staten Island, but the movie is going to VOD instead now due to movie theaters being shut down for the indefinite future.

The new comedy was written and directed by Judd Apatow and is a semi-autobiographical take on Pete’s life.

Here’s the synopsis: Scott (Davidson) has been a case of arrested development ever since his firefighter father died when he was seven. He’s now reached his mid-20s having achieved little, chasing a dream of becoming a tattoo artist that seems far out of reach. As his ambitious younger sister (Maude Apatow) heads off to college, Scott is still living with his exhausted ER nurse mother (Marisa Tomei) and spends his days smoking weed, hanging with the guys—Oscar (Ricky Velez), Igor (Moises Arias) and Richie (Lou Wilson)—and secretly hooking up with his childhood friend Kelsey (Bel Powley). But when his mother starts dating a loudmouth firefighter named Ray (Bill Burr), it sets off a chain of events that will force Scott to grapple with his grief and take his first tentative steps toward moving forward in life.

Steve Buscemi also stars in the movie as Papa, a veteran firefighter who takes Scott under his wing, and Pamela Adlon as Ray’s ex-wife, Gina.

The King of Staten Island is heading to VOD on June 12.
