The 54-year-old actor plays Dr. John Dolittle in the upcoming film.
Here’s the synopsis for the vivid reimagining of the classic tale of the man who could talk to animals: “After losing his wife seven years earlier, the eccentric Dr. John Dolittle (Downey), famed doctor and veterinarian of Queen Victoria’s England, hermits himself away behind the high walls of Dolittle Manor with only his menagerie of exotic animals for company. But when the young queen (Jessie Buckley) falls gravely ill, a reluctant Dolittle is forced to set sail on an epic adventure to a mythical island in search of a cure, regaining his wit and courage as he crosses old adversaries and discovers wondrous creatures.”
It continues, “The doctor is joined on his quest by a young, self-appointed apprentice (Harry Collett) and a raucous coterie of animal friends, including an anxious gorilla (Rami Malek), an enthusiastic but bird-brained duck (Octavia Spencer), a bickering duo of a cynical ostrich (Kumail Nanjiani) and an upbeat polar bear (John Cena) and a headstrong parrot (Emma Thompson), who serves as Dolittle’s most trusted advisor and confidante.”
Renée Zellweger made sure to stay dry under a rainbow umbrella as posed on the red carpet at the European premiere of her latest film Judy held at The Curzon Mayfair on Monday (September 30) in London, England.
The original soundtrack for Judy, based on the true story of Judy Garland‘s final concerts in London in the late 1960s, is available now – Stream it here!
FYI: Renée Zellweger is wearing the Nolan dress in lavender textured cloque from Emilia Wickstead with Christian Louboutin shoes.
Renee Zellweger walks the red carpet with singer Sam Smith at the premiere of her movie Judy on Thursday (September 19) at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The 50-year-old Oscar-winning actress, who is getting Oscar buzz again for this movie, recorded a duet of “Get Happy” with Sam for the soundtrack.
Rufus Wainwright, who recorded “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” with Renee for the soundtrack, walked the red carpet with Sharon Stone.
On working withRenee Zellwegeron Judy: “Renée has been such an absolute babe. We both love Susan Tedeschi, and she’s like: ‘She’s playing next week, why don’t you come over?’ Yeah, she’s been lovely. She was really kind — even some mornings in the trailer, she’d show this really warm, protective heart. Just little things, looking out for me on the film.”
On getting therapy as an actress: “It’s harder [to do] when you’re away filming, because you have to build that relationship up. But I bloody love it. It’s been brilliant for me. It’s about being honest. There’s no point pretending. If I don’t do that in my own life, how the hell am I meant to play somebody else’s?”
On her anxiety and panic attacks in her teenage years: “It’s definitely better, but I’m still human. I still have days when I get sad. And I get days when I get happy, and I get days when I get scared. But now I feel the things. I’m not frightened of them. And actually they’re all important. You’ve just got to accept them, invite them in and say, ‘Have a cup of tea and what’s going on?’, instead of trying to repress them. Which I probably did when I was young, ’cause I was scared of them.”

Jessie Buckley strikes a pose in a stripped suit while attending the Paris premiere of her acclaimed film Wild Rose held at UGC Cine Cite des Halles on Monday (June 24) in Paris, France.
The 29-year-old actress, who was nominated for the EE Rising Star Award at the BAFTAs earlier this year, was joined at the event by the film’s director Tom Harper.
Jessie plays Rose-Lynn, a would-be country singer who dreams of leaving her rough life in Glasgow, Scotland for the bright lights of Nashville.
Fresh out of a stint in prison, Rose-Lynn is a single mom with an ankle monitor, a curfew, and a concerned mother (Julie Walters), who wants her to focus more on her two children and less on her music. But when Rose- Lynn tries to hold down a housekeeping job, her boss (Sophie Okonedo) hears her singing and becomes an unlikely supporter, intent on getting her to Nashville despite the long odds. Caught between hope and responsibility, Rose-Lynn must find her place without abandoning her raw talent and grand ambitions.
Wild Rose is playing in select theaters now – Watch the trailer here!
Jessie Buckley had to pick up an accent for her role in Wild Rose and had some help from the Spice Girls!
The 29-year-old Irish actress and singer explained that she had to learn a Glaswegian accent for the film.
“I was terrified when I got the part. They’re the proudest people. If I didn’t get it right, the would have chased me out with pitchforks,” Jessie joked.
She added that she lived in Glasgow for a month before shooting and during her stay, she realized she had to nail one specific phrase that was said completely differently than her normal accent.
“Spice Girls!” Jessie explained, before saying the name in both accents.
