iCarly's Jennette McCurdy Confirms She Quit Acting

Jennette McCurdy has confirmed that she will no longer in involved in acting projects.

“I quit a few years ago to try my hand at writing and directing—it’s going great,” the iCarly star said on her “Empty Inside” podcast.

“I quit a few years ago because I initially didn’t want to do it. My mom put me in it when I was six and by sort of age, I guess, 10 or 11, I was the main financial support for my family. My family didn’t have a lot of money, and this was the way out, which I actually think was helpful in driving me to some degree of success,” she continued.

She starred on the hit Nickelodeon show from 2007 to 2012.

“Always, always, always, acting was difficult for me,” she added about her anxiety.

“Once I started to get the nerves under control was when I started to actually get some traction, but I ultimately quit after my mom passed away because with her death kind of died a lot of her ideas for my life, and that was its own journey, and a difficult one for sure,” she added. She lost her mom to cancer in 2013.

Fans were upset to learn that Jennette was not included in the iCarly revival.

Last year, she wrote and performed a one woman show, “I’m Glad My Mom Died”, saying, “I wrote this one-woman show, and I performed that, and I really did not want to because of the nerves. Because of feeling like, I don’t want to f**king act anymore, I’m done. So I did it just for that show, but I think that one-woman show would be the most of it.”

She also said, “My experience with acting is, I’m so ashamed of the parts I’ve done in the past.

“I resent my career in a lot of ways. I feel so unfulfilled by the roles that I played and felt like it was the most cheesy, embarrassing. I did the shows that I was on from like 13 to 21, and by 15, I was already embarrassed. My friends at 15, they’re not like, ‘Oh, cool, you’re on this Nickelodeon show.’ It was embarrassing. And I imagine there’s a very different experience to be had with acting if you’re proud of your roles, and if you feel fulfilled by them,” she added.

If you don’t know, Jennette also starred alongside Ariana Grande in Sam & Cat, and Ariana once addressed a big rumor about their relationship.

Jennette McCurdy Posts About New Project Amid 'iCarly' Revival News

Jennette McCurdy is promoting her new project – but it’s not what fans really want.

On Wednesday (December 9), it was announced that iCarly was being revived for a new show on Paramount+ with original cast members Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress, and Jerry Trainor.

Fans were bummed to learn that Jennette‘s name wasn’t included in the announcement, especially since she played fan-favorite character Sam Puckett on the show for six seasons before it ended in November 2012. She then reprised the role for her own spinoff series Sam & Cat with Ariana Grande, which ran for 35 episodes before ending in July 2014.

After the iCarly revival announcement was made, Jennette, 28, took to her Instagram Story to share with fans an update about her podcast Empty Inside.

“Also a few big thank yous to everyone who helped out with season 1 of empty inside,” Jennette wrote, tagging three people. “you guys are amazing !!”

She added: “And an extra special thank you to all the empty inside listeners !! season 2 coming soon.”

As of right now, it’s unclear if Jennette McCurdy will be appearing – in any capacity – for the iCarly revival, which is set to air in 2021.

Jennette McCurdy Reveals Struggle with Eating Disorder

Jennette McCurdy has decided to candidly talk about her health struggles.

The 26-year-old former iCarly star penned an extremely personal letter to Huffington Post where she opened up about her eating disorder battle.

“My disordered eating started when I was 11. As a child actress working in Hollywood, I quickly learned that remaining physically small for my age meant I had a better chance of booking more roles,” Jennette writes. “Unfortunately, I had a trusty and dedicated companion ready to help me with my burgeoning anorexia: my mom!”

Jennette then explained how her mom struggled with anorexia saying she’s “not convinced [my mom] ever overcame her disordered eating.”

She then talks about being cast on iCarly alongside Miranda Cosgrove when she barely ate.

“I became even more fixated on food and my body. I monitored every bite I took,” Jennette writes. “I exercised obsessively. I measured my thighs with a measuring tape every night before bed.”

Jennette‘s mom was then diagnosed with cancer for the second time, which began her “binge eating phase.”

“I still tracked, calculated and obsessed about every single thing that went into my mouth, just the same as when I had anorexia. The only difference was that I was eating a lot more,” Jennette continues. “I was constantly preoccupied with food. Nothing meant more to me than my next bite and nothing gave me more shame than my last one. I was in a toxic, self-loathing cycle.”

Eventually Jennete‘s sister-in-law confronted her about her fluctuating weight – which began her recovery process.

“Recovery was brutal. It felt like breaking up with a bad boyfriend whom I loved even though I knew I shouldn’t,” Jennette adds. “He treated me poorly, he ruined my life, he consistently devastated me, and yet, without him, who was I really?”

Jennette admits she’s had slip-ups, but is focused on on staying on the healthy track.

“Anytime I’ve had a slip, I’ve gotten back on my program. It’s been two years and I’m doing well, recovering and moving forward. I still get eating disorder urges, compulsions and occasional fantasies. I still hear that old eating disorder voice, but luckily I hear it less and less often,” Jennette concludes. “And when I do hear it, I now have the tools to muffle it.”
