Jeffrey Dean Morgan Says ‘The Walking Dead’ Cancellation ‘Came From Nowhere’

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is getting real about The Walking Dead coming to an end.

The 54-year-old actor opened up about the show's sudden cancellation in an interview with Collider on Thursday (April 1).

Jeffrey said, “The news, when we got it in the middle of the pandemic, was a complete surprise, not only to me and the rest of the actors, but to everybody involved in the show from production. [Chief content officer] Scott Gimple and [showrunner] Angela Kang had no idea either.”

“It came from nowhere and there was such a huge pivot. I think they had Season 11 all mapped out, where they were going to go, and suddenly it became, ‘We also have to close the story, in a way,’” he continued.

“It took everybody by surprise, so it was a massive pivot,” Jeffrey said. “And then, they threw in the six tacked-on episodes to Season 10, and instead of doing 16, we’re going to do 24 more. There was a lot of stuff to wrap our heads around.”

The actor also added that the cast will have a long time to come to terms with the series ending.

“It doesn’t feel like the end yet and I’m glad because that’s a long time to be thinking about the end,” Jeffrey said. “We have another year here to shoot, and we’re shooting straight through. It’s brutal. But I know it’s there. It’s in the back of all of our heads that it’s there.”

A trailer for Jeffrey's new movie The Unholy was just released and you can see the clip here!

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Investigates The Paranormal In ‘The Unholy’ – Watch The Trailer!

Jeffrey Dean Morgan comes face to face with something that's unbelievable in the first trailer for The Unholy.

The movie centers on Alice (Cricket Brown), a young hearing-impaired girl who, after a supposed visitation from the Virgin Mary, is inexplicably able to hear, speak and heal the sick.

As word spreads and people from near and far flock to witness her miracles, a disgraced journalist (Morgan) hoping to revive his career visits the small New England town to investigate.

When terrifying events begin to happen all around, he starts to question if these phenomena are the works of the Virgin Mary or something much more sinister.

Cary Elwes, Katie Aselton, and William Sadler also star in The Unholy, out in theaters on April 2.
